Good Day

Cynra & I had quite a day today (well, yesterday).

We went to the GX volunteer meeting (distinct and disparate from the general FanExpo volunteer meeting, which is tommorow) and met with Alex & Madmanofprague.

Actually, we'd been delayed on the roads, so we bumped into Madmanofprague on the subway, where we yelled "You're late!" at each other.

The meeting went well, as well as it could with half the volunteers missing.

Afterwards, Cynra & I went to pick up my new spectacles from our optometrists. They're a nice pair of Hugo Boss frames. The arms are rather broad, so I won't actually use them for daily use, but they will suffice for formal occasions.

We'd parked the civic at Kipling (and managed to enjoy using the "I've never kippled" joke by the end of the day) and got a day pass on the TTC. It gives you a nice sense of freedom. You don't have to worry about parking running out, or even going back to the parking spot (other than the one where you did park your car).

After picking up the frames, we got onto the Dundas streetcar and went to the AMC at Yonge/Dundas to see The Boys, a documentary about the Sherman Brothers, who were the Disney Tunesmiths responsible for every hummable Disney tune you ever heard on LP.

We got there early, so after getting our tickets we wandered about Dundas Square and then grabbed a drink & a bite at the Jack Astor's up on the fourth floor of the Toronto Life building.

They have waitresses in sailor outfits now. That's so... Awesomebadwrongfun?

The film was an interesting one. I guess the tale of the Brothers Sherman did not engage me as much the tales of the music industry and the behind the scenes stuff at Disney.

The fact that it was produced by Disney is an interesting one. I hope that it didn't chill the creative process at all, but it did allow the directors good access to lots of materials from the studio.

We did a bookstore graze, where Cynra once again lamented that she did not recall every single book she had in her library. I hope this is a common librarian's neurosis. We were contemplating getting some Poutine from a new Poutinerie I'd read about in Eye* (

After another subway trip, we came home, where we watched some tv and chilled. She had eggs for (late) dinner, and I had a sandwich. Good day, overall.

* which dedicated far too much space to the new Tarantino flick this week. In fact, after the Wired issue, this, and seeing "Basterds, basterds, basterds!" spread across the cover of Esquire, I'm officially tired if IG promo stuff.
