Bit of Randomness

Sleep walking?Through the drizzly sprinkles of early morning, he strolled alone and in silence on the sidewalk with his hands in his pockets. Several streetlight poles clanged like cymbals from the force of the wind. Away he walked with flip-flops, a cap, and a jacket on, while a rare vehicle rolled quickly by on the road ( Read more... )

Wow... adventurous now, are you? Good for you! I love doing random, spontaneous things like that.

You wear flip flops? I wouldn't have expected that... but now that I think about it a little, I can't say it doesn't seem to fit you. =)

As for the headcoverings... I don't have a problem with wearing a hat instead of a headcovering, although I think my Dad prefers the covering to replace the look of hair by being longer and more feminine. The only problem with that idea, is that people will start thinking you're Moslem... so I've sorta found the happy medium with scarfs. =P

I have worn hats, but I think it makes a bigger spectacle of myself, so I limit myself to wearing them only on occasion.

LOL about David. That sounds just like him.

After reading Ben's adventures, I had to put quotes around "adventure". I wish I'd been on that trip with Ben! It was really good to do something so spontaneously and out of the ordinary.

Um .. How could you know if I usually wear flip-flops? But, somehow you're right. Haha. I don't normally -- I don't even own my own pair -- but it was 2-2:30 in the morning, and I just grabbed whatever was there and went. Oh, plus I grabbed my jacket. I didn't want to be seen in my undershirt (not that anyone was around, I guess). Rather than flip-flops, I own sandals. Does that fit better? =P 'Hardly wear them, though.

No, you don't want to be considered a Moslem. =) That makes sense.

LOL. Well, maybe you'll think I'm weird, but I sort of put guys into catagories by the way they dress, and that would even apply to shoes. To put it very generally:

Boots = redneck, cowboys
Tennis shoes = very general, but often athletic (especially if they're worn with a baseball cap)
Any kind of dress shoes = Business (office guys), salesmen, lawyers, preppy
Flipflops = usually more citified, modern, high cultured
Sandals = A mix of several... sorta. um. Country, but not redneck or cowboy. Athletic, but not sporty. Sometimes citified, but it usually depends on what is worn with it.

So does that make more sense? I imagined you to be a little of each, minus the flip flops... but sandals substitute pretty well. =)

That's not weird at all. I'm not surprised in the least, because that just seems like you. =)

I've never been a person to pay much attention to style. For the most part I'm indifferent to what I wear. As long as it's modest, not showy, clean, and neat, it's fine. --Well, I simplify matters a bit. =) I'm partial to some things. Flip-flops -- no. (Recently, I've been starting to form stronger opinions about clothing.)

Your analysis of footwear makes perfect sense, but it doesn't really work on me. I certainly don't consider myself citified -- nor do I want to be. I got the sandals in TX, and I've only worn them two/three times. Most of the time I wear hiking "boots," simply because they were some of the most durable and affordable shoes. =)

So what kinds of opinions have you been forming in regards to clothing? Are there other women in your church that cover their heads?

Wow, you've suddenly become talkative, but that's okay. =) I had wondered why you were so quiet before.

One of the things I've recently considered is avoiding wearing unisex clothing (like most T-shirts). Other than that, I've just been realizing that clothing does speak volumes, and I want to use clothing to help define myself in other people's eyes -- which I haven't really thought much about before, believe it or not.

Sadly, no, there're no women at our church who cover their heads. It seems to be connected to the fact that they don't really believe in homemaking or see the role distinctions between men and women.
