Washington, DC -- Congress seems intent this session in finally passing a law that will help many of our young children who are having difficulty in school. The law will mandate that public schools finally offer an option for separate education for students. They're experimenting with that in our town at the middle school. The following article was written in May, but the class is happening after all:

Law may impact class designed only for boys

Plans to launch an all-boys class next year at Grafton's John Long Middle School are going forward, even as the school board on Monday tabled approval of the program.

The board will take up the issue again after the district reviews the impact of a new law on single-sex education, said Superintendent Jeff Pechura. He said the board supported the idea, and the district will send letters home to parents of students selected for the program, inviting them to attend parent meetings on the proposed class.

The proposal would create a largely self-contained class of 28 boys, who would take core classes, such as science and literacy, from a single teacher. The boys would take other classes, such as art and foreign language, in mixed-gender groups and eat lunch with all students in their grade.
