the red balloon came a-knocking on a hot and sunny afternoon in june. and i laid on the baby haired grass in my front yard talking to you. a fishbowl headed man came ambling down my avenue with his elbow on his knee he leaned in and told me about tomorrow and before i knew the red balloon came back and it took him too. we walked down the coast, hopping beaches like lily pads and i could have sworn i saw your skin tint green in the moon light and i licked my eyes from time to time. and i won't give up a chance to put the ocean in a bottle i wear on my side and drink it when i think of you. on our way to the mountains he opened his mouth and squinted his eyes, the old man told us about the bad weather on his other side so we camped under his eyebrows full of pine. the red balloon came and took you away and i felt fine. me and the red balloon spent some time on a clear night he showed me the steps to the moon and i proceeded to climb up a constellation of stars. on the moon there are cats that fly and on the inside are mice with white eyes they burrow across the equator and run on wheels to keep the moon moving in its core. after many days and never night the red balloon came for me and i ate it so i'd never die.
on a bench below the roller coaster i could hear the coughing of the tracks
you had a pink bubble of gum and the blue sky reflecting off your eyes
do you wanna
do you wanna ride the bumper cars
the spiny rides?
or bungee jump? i'll hold the sky
rest in the shade of cotton candy
and come out sticky,
stuck to me.
