A LUXURY car once owned by Sir Paul McCartney is expected to be sold for up to £120,000 at auction.

The right-hand drive, burgundy 1967 Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 is to be sold at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 1.

Auction house Bonhams, which will handle the sale of the former Beatle’s one-time pride and joy, has already had pre-sale estimates of £100,000 to £120,000.

A spokeswoman for Bonhams said: “We are very happy to be selling it and it is already attracting a lot of interest.”

The Lamborghini joins an impressive line-up of cars for the annual sale of Collector’s Motor Cars and Automobilia.

Also included are a 1926 Bugatti Type 37 (estimate £120,000-£160,000), a 1988 Porsche 959 (estimate £160,000-£180,000), a 1972 Ferrari 265GTB/4 Daytona (estimate £210,000-£240,000), as well as an historic 1928 Bentley 3-Litre Speed Model (estimate £120,000-£140,000) which had belonged to the same family since 1945.

The highlight of the auction is likely to be a rare 1954 Aston Martin DB2/4 Cabriolet, previously owned by racing driver Innes Ireland, who won the US Grand Prix in 1961.

The Aston Martin, whose body was one of two created by Italian design house Carrozziere Bertone, is estimated to fetch up to £500,000.

The Goodwood Festival, held in Sussex, is the largest car culture event in the world.
