The massive library of Beatles tomes will grow by one more volume this fall with the addition of Kevin Howlett's The Beatles: The BBC Archives, a definitive history of the Fab Four's appearances on BBC radio and TV from 1962 to 1970.

The book (Harper Design, $60) goes on sale Oct. 29. In 336 pages and 250 photos, BBC Archives reveals the artistic and personal evolution of the legendary quartet of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, who revolutionized music and pop culture.

Howlett's in-depth chronicle uses BBC archives, rare photos, previously unpublished interview transcripts and stories from producers and studio staff. The Beatles and the BBC shared a rich and pivotal history, and many of the songs the band performed on the British network were never released on their records.

The hardcover is packaged in a box resembling a 1960s reel-to-reel tape case and includes a large envelope of ephemera.
