Of course Paul should speak out on issues he feels passionate about. What were the Beatles about but giving people the freedom to speak up, experiment, and be yourself? And what is the alternative: Vapid celebrities like Victoria Beckham who stand still, look pretty, say nothing, and try to sell you something?

I applaud Paul's activism on animal rights and climate change. He has had a tremendous influence globally in making vegetarianism a "normal" and acceptable option -- compared with how it was viewed in the 1970s as a "fringe" lifestyle. What we eat and how it gets to our table is one of the most political issues of our time. And he's been consistently engaged in this for 30-plus years. He's not dabbling here.

Should George not have written songs about spirituality and religion? Should he have kept his mouth shut about God and Hari Krishna? Should John not have spoken out about peace and politics? Imagine (no pun intended) telling John Lennon to stand still, look pretty and keep his damn opinions to himself. "Shut up and sing, John."

I can't believe any Beatles fan would do anything but applaud John, George, or Paul for speaking up on issues that they believed in. Go, Paul! Science has increasingly shown he's on the right side. And nothing in this world ever gets accomplished if we are silent.

I celebrate all of the Beatles for following the courage of their convictions.
