James McCartney Readies Album Number Two

James McCartney’s first American tour switches coasts this month, moving from a slew of Californian stops to dates on the eastern seaboard (see below).  This second leg of his North American tour follows several European performances, including a stint at his dad’s old haunt, Liverpool’s Cavern Club. It’s all part of a world tour in honor of McCartney’s album debut, “The Complete EP Collection,” which, as the title suggests, collects his recent digital-only EPs, Available Light and Close At Hand, but adds brand new songs as well. (The record’s credits include his father as co-producer.)

“I just wanted to start slowly and lead up to doing a full record,” McCartney explains about why he didn’t go the traditional route and record and release an album in one go. “So we started with the two EPs. “The Complete EP Collection” has both EPs, along with another five bonus tracks.”

McCartney, Jr., might have took his time with his debut, but it looks like fans won’t have to wait long for album number two: “I’m already working on what will become my new record and will be recording more later this summer,”he says.

The London-based lad records for New York indie Engine Room Records but doesn’t spend too much time thinking about today’s music business, or even the old one that his father was originally a part of.

“It is what it is,” he says. “I think the best thing to do is just to make one’s music, however one makes it, and let it unfold naturally.”

McCartney grew up on the road with his mom and pop’s band Wings and is no stranger to life on the road. He admits that he spends, “a lot of time traveling.”  Which does he prefer, touring and traveling, or staying still and writing songs and recording?

“Well, I love each in a different way, but on the deepest level I’d definitely say the writing part,”McCartney says. “It can be quite daunting, even painful, to try and create something meaningful. But in the end it’s so rewarding and the process is so beautiful.”
