I had a great time with Alison yesterday. I cooked her breakfast (bacon/eggs/toast/hash browns/caramel milk), and then we went to see "Howl's Moving Castle". It was a wonderful movie, very funny and sad and beautiful and happy. I cried three times during it. An excellent date movie, in case you're wondering.
Then we cooked some vegies for lunch (I gave Alison a Howl's Moving Castle figurine as a present) and had this with cold chicken. Yummo.
I cooked mascarpone and strawberry slice in the afternoon, because Alison had been put on the catering team at church. I don't think women should automatically be put on the list, so we decided that I could do the catering instead. It was fun, I was the only guy on the team, and my slice was highly admired. I was actually pretty happy with it. The base turned out really light, I used a spatula to fold the flour into the butter/sugar base, which I think helped keep it light.
The nicest thing about the whole thing is that it might encourage some guys at church to get into the kitchen. Some of them were feeling pretty inadequate when their wives were telling me how nice my slice was. One lady even suggested that, should Alison die, I could marry her, but only so that I could cook for her.
A busy week this week, but thankfully my marking is almost done. I have to start testing people for my next study this week. And keep writing. My PGDip students hand in their thesis this week, which is nice, one less thing to worry about.
