Whilst I wait for my next participant, let me post about Stump.
Stump, a mixed bag.
We played very well, and finally gained an audience. I was half standing-up-frontman- working-the-stage, and half pianist. A better mix, much more conducive to crowd interaction and riling. Music compared to Steve Reich, my stage presence to Lee "Scratch" Perry. All in all, wonderful. A real milestone, seeing people dance to our 7/4 bits. Helped by the fact that two sound consoles blew on Friday, leading to a 1/2 hour delay, with teenagers hoping to see Angela's Dish digging us instead.
My workshop was OK, but not great. I didn't nail it like our shows did.
Hanging out was good. Nice to include Tim and Marc into the usual Drivethru crowd. Great to see Martin again (he gave me a whole box of old CDs that I'm yet to listen to). No really great art conversations, but musicians are starting to get restless with the boring bands out there. I need to think about how to push them to the next step.
Paul Colman royally sucked. Poorest thing I've seen in AGES.
The View - a band with potential trying to drain it off, off backing vox, lose the metronome
The Elect - quite inventive, great drum feel, vox still need some work (give it time, it'll work)
TAJHM - Levi Likes Trains is very well written, with a great vibe, I played accordion. Was asked to leave as I was talking to martin about Spirited Away a little too loudly (I got carried away and then spirited myself away).
McIverCork - time to write a popera album.
The Veld - I worry for them
Deepchild - hard to know whether to dance or just sit and enjoy the sounds
Maverick - piano & psychology! They sounded OK as well.
Sons of Korah - surprisingly exciting, not as good as Steve Messer
Headbands, fun until you get a headache.
