Sufjan is still rocking my world. I haven't had this experience since I first really got into The Beach Boys, or Stereolab, or Fugazi.
Band practice last night was great. Tim and I had a good talk about how he's doing afterwards. When he's doing well we play great, but if his life is going bad we suck. This is why we aren't professionals, because we can't just shut things out. I wouldn't want it to change that much.
Kept working on the city set. Played the first good version of "I Work In An Old Bank", with glock parts, shaker, and the instrumental finally worked!! It's taken a few times for Phil to get the idea for our instrumentals, but now he's getting it. Also worked on the mid-section for Bristow, and it's sounding quite a bit fuller. First up, however, we worked on "I Fall Asleep On The Train", and started to put it all together. The instrumental sections are sounding much better. Really subtle guitar, some nice bass, particularly towards the end. I've worked out a really neat way to tie the piano parts together. It's basically a flash effect, play something to disguise something else.
I'm working on the end lyrics to "I Can Go For Weeks", aiming for a message more in line with 'new city' than 'park is better'. It's better that way.
