Later this afternoon the La Salle Green Archers will be facing the UE Red Warriors in Game 2 of the Finals (UAAP Season 70 Men's Basketball).
Yes, the team I root for isn't in the running anymore.
And yes, I still might watch the game.
I caught the second half of Game 1 on replay last Thursday (La Salle won by a point) and I saw how much both teams wanted to win. Both teams wanting to reclaim lost glory. UE haven't won the big thing in a long while and La Salle wants to put behind the shame brought about by their suspension last year. It was a good great game.
I've always been a fan of La Salle's press and even though UE has really good defensive sets as well, I still like watching the green one. It was short of a nightmare to see the Ateneo guards having trouble with La Salle's 'D' in the step-ladder semis and it was a breather to see UE committing 30+ turnovers to it (in the Finals!).
What I like about UE on the other hand is their versatility. Most if not all of the players they put on the floor can score. During the final seconds of game 1, they were able to execute the play they wanted - lady luck (or the basketball gods) simply wasn't on their side and the ball rimmed out. They committed 30+ turnovers and were still a few millimeters shy of winning. Wow!
Two teams, one goal.
Man for man, UE beats La Salle's depleted line-up. La Salle may have better players (with two players probably in the league's Mythical Five as compared to only one of UE, despite the sweep) but they can't dig as deep as UE when it's needed. Experience wise, UE has been together in the UAAP longer while La Salle has the "Finals" advantage. Equals.
As the cliché goes, the championship will go to the team that wants it more.

I still bleed blue, but for this series, I'm rooting for green.

I read somewhere that Ateneo guard Chris Tiu is part of the league's Mythical Five. I also read that he will be in the US to watch the Pacquio-Barrera match (I think he got the invite since he'll be having a show with Pacquiao in local TV).
The Paquiao-Barrera match just started in television as I type this but I heard Pacquiao already won by decision (since the broadcast is delayed). If what I read was true, there's no way Chris is going to be back in time to receive his award.
Being more of a basketball fan than a boxing fan, I find it sad that someone will miss the awarding to watch a boxing match, in another country, live. Nothing against Chris - and yes, I know personal accolades fall completely short to championships when it comes to basketball - but still...
Oh well, as long as there's one more year.

If ever they coincided, I wonder if more people in the country will watch an Ateneo-La Salle finals bout or a Manny Pacquiao match. Hmm...
My mistake - definitely more people will watch the boxing match. The correct question would be: Will the people who would normally watch the basketball game live choose to watch on television so they can catch the boxing match on TV as well?
My answer may be biased but I personally doubt it.
