Sokka found her exactly as he had expected, face down on a table in the filthiest bar in Republic City, surrounded by half a dozen guys made entirely of muscles and bruises. Okay, he hadn't expected that one concussed guy giving Toph a big, gap-toothed grin and a hearty thumbs up, but Sokka put that to the head trauma.
"Oh, Sokka," she groaned, shaking her head back and forth in a puddle of fermented...something. She kept running her right hand down a thin metal sheet punched with a series of raised dots. "It's terrible."
Sokka sighed and scratched at his beard. "What did you do this time?"
"Wrestled a polarbearwolf in central park, but that's not important," Toph sniffed. "What's important is that I've now broken every single stupid nonfelony law this city has!" She held the punched sheet of metal up to Sokka and ran her hand down it again, just to check that there wasn't one that she'd missed.
She ran her hand down Sokka's face, too, to make sure he was making an appropriately devastated expression.
"What do I do now?" she wailed.
"You knew it would happen eventually," Sokka said, and lifted her arm over his shoulder, helping her to her feet. "Come on, let's get you home. You've got to give other people time to break some rules, too. Otherwise you're just being selfish."
Toph's face lit up. "Sokka, you beautiful genius, you're right!" She grabbed a stein off the table and bent it into a makeshift helmet. "Evildoers beware! Nobody better break any more rules than me!"
As she ran off laughing into the night, beer helmet on head, Sokka wondered what he had just unleashed on the world.
