So I got a job.
It's almost too wonderful to fathom.
To preface.....
EMILY'S LIST is this amazing advocacy group that raises money for pro-choice, Democratic woman candidates. EMILY'S LIST does more than just raise money. It encourages women to run for public office and helps them obtain resources to do so successfully. In terms of progressive politics EMILY'S LIST is one of the best organizations to be affiliated with.
And now I am.
They have this program called Campaign Corps which is a grassroots program which trains college grads to have upper level positions on a campaign. Over 400 people applied and I was one of 30 accepted to the program. And this was without a phone call or someone pulling strings. It feels really good considering how politics is. I was chosen because of my accomplishments and the potential I have. The hard work of the last four years feels like it's starting to pay off.
At the end of July I'll got to DC for Campaign School which is an intense week-long crash course of everything I'll need to know about working on a campaign. Then I will be placed on a progressive Democratic campaign for the last 3 months of the campaign. I could really end up anywhere- Texas, Washington, California, Montana...who knows!
I'm a little sad because I will be leaving Chicago for good. I'll probably move to DC after the campaign is over. Durbin's office was dissapointed when I said I wasn't heading out to DC right after graduation. Hopefully in Novemeber we will be in the majority and my job selection will be a bit more expansive.
So I've launched my career politics. Now all I have to do is graduate. Which is becoming increasingly more difficult given the SEVERE case of senioritis I'm suffering from. It's dangerous.
It's overwhelming. Fuck, I could be a Campaign Manager or Finance Director or Press Secretary!!!
3.5 weeks to go!!!
