"I wished to extend my sincere apolo-"

"Save it, Sebastian. You're not welcome here. Not now." Emma began to shut the door in his face, but his hand pressed against it and she sighed. What the bloody hell did the fool want?

"I'm not allowed to pay my respects?"

"Go to hell." She slammed the door and walked away, avoiding most people until she found her way back to her office and locked the door. Shielding herself so that her emotions did not leak through, she slumped into the chair and began sobbing.

Oh, Kitten, you should not have been the one.

She wondered, idly, if the conversation that she had with Scott when the team was first formed came back to haunt him. Kitty had never wished to be a member of the group, at least not in terms of fighting. She was supposed to be the "face" that homo sapiens could relate to when thinking of so-called "muties". Yet, in the end, she had been the hero out of them all.

Did Scott feel as guilty as she did that they had brought her back to the team, only to have this happen?

There was another part of her, of course, that did not feel guilt at all. Pride. The girl had grown into a woman and despite all the horrid things that had occurred between Kitty and herself through the years, somehow Emma had managed to never let go of the anger. Certainly it was the same for Kitty.

But in that last, final moment before she lost all contact with her, Emma let go of the enmity. She thought she could "hear" it from her little kitten that Katherine had, as well.

Second chances. That was what the X-Men were all about. Somehow, even though Kitty was lost forever, Emma had been given a second chance with her. She wiped her tears from her face and walked outside to the limo that held Sebastian. The back door opened and he looked at her, puzzled.

"Come inside. If you truly wish to-"

"I do," he replied, and Emma prayed to God that she was doing the right thing.

"Then follow me." She turned to lead him back inside the mansion, her mental shields still up, as she raised her eyes to the sky. Kitty was out there, somewhere… perhaps. Alive or dead, she was out there, the girl who had loved and lost, grown and suffered, and had given Emma a second chance at a relationship with her.

This is for you, Kitten.

The mansion doors shut behind Emma and Sebastian.
