Does This Come With Frequent Flyer Miles?

Wow, it's been a super busy couple of weeks. Trip planning, writing, cleaning, car repairs, births, birthdays, writing, trip planning. Umm, what type of grad school sets their deadline for November 2? Don't they know that I will be gone for all of September and October? Why must they torture me into producing an entire portfolio in two weeks?

Our house has been a comedy of errors recently. We have people renting it for the next two months, so we've had to clean and reorganize it. Every time we make progress in a room, I print out a bunch of pages to proofread. For some reason, my version of proofreading involves spreading every one of the fifty pages across the floor so that I can look at them individually. Maybe this lends some sort of tangibility to the writing process. Or maybe I'm just wasting a ton of freaking paper. Enter into this same room Grant, who uses about twenty books to study for the Canadian medical exam (which he is finally taking tomorrow! 8-5. Yikes!). Add to that a few suitcases that are spilling over with clothes and miniature versions of everything that you can imagine (mini lint rollers, mini lotions, mini loofahs) and throw in a dash of Iamacontrolfreakandhavetomakeitinerariesandprintoutsforeverycountrywearevisiting and you can see that our house is not ready for anyone with the gift of sight to enter into, let alone make their home.

But I'm finally getting excited. I think that I was just so overwhelmed by everything and then distracted by this application that I never really felt as deliriously happy as I should. I mean, we are visiting five countries in two months. For me, that means nine new countries in the span of roughly a year. That's pretty awesome. I feel almost unable to digest it because this year, in general, has been one life altering change after another. It's like the wish granting fairy came down and said, "Poof, you get everything." But then, it's human nature to wait for the other shoe to drop.

Conversely, when you're in the midst of things, it's easy to feel like it's the way that it will always be. But two months to travel to your heart's content? NOT the way life will always be. I need to appreciate it more.

I just need to get through this day. Tomorrow morning, I leave for Vancouver, and Friday night we fly to London! Then it's on to Prague, Olomouc, Vienna, Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Soma Bay, Cairo, Chicago and San Francisco.

When we get back, it will be cold! Very cold! But hey, it's been fall here for something like three weeks already. So, Indian summer, here I come!
