"The secret of flight lies in the belief that we are worthy of flying"

Yesterday there were two ducks sitting out in our yard, male and female. Rich and I fed them bread. They ended up staying all day. Then at about 7 at night I go out to my car to look for something. I notice the ducks running, as much as ducks can run, away from our house. Then I see lady down the block, who has a HUGE German Shepherd, start walking to me. She says she found an egg, my heart drops. She asks what she should do. I was worried that some other animal would get to it, or the ducks were scared away for good, or I know that some animals won't go back to their eggs/babies if touched by humans, so I told her to call the wildlife group that is around here. I was hoping that it wasn't already dead, they don't live long without the right amount of heat.

I go back inside wondering if there were more eggs and if the mom was going to come back. I didn't see the ducks for the rest of the night. I go out this morning, still no ducks. I walk over to where they were sitting, I see two more eggs. There isn't anything to do with them now. It was too cold for them to have lived through the night. So three possible baby ducks are now gone. I know the two that I saw for sure, who knows what the lady did with the other one. I don't even know if she called anyone.

This makes me sad.
