Nursing can be rewarding, but you have to realize what you're getting into. My mom was a nurse for most of her adult life, and it's a very stressful and messy job. For one thing, nurses are sort of the doctors' "underlings" and have to do all of the dirty work. It's likely that you'll come in contact with blood, vomit, and human waste. The job requires someone who is really chipper, positive, has a lot of stamina, and who is good at dealing with sudden problems, both medical and emotional (remember, not all patients have a Little Miss Sunshine disposition).
I guess that sounds a little daunting, but the benefits of a career in nursing are also extremely evident. You'll always be helping people, and have a great sense of "really making a difference". After you finish your nursing education, you'd immediately get a job (it's a job that's high in demand). Also, not to be pessimistic, but if there's ever a huge war or economic depression, you'll still have your job... health care is always needed.
That said, I think you'd make an excellent nurse. You're very caring and charismatic. If I were sick, I would feel reassured to have someone like you taking care of me.
I'd recommend talking to some nurses (or retired nurses) that you know. I'm sure that my mother would be more than happy to talk with you about it via e-mail, since she's been in the nursing career for so long and has definitely seen its ups and downs. She's also been in a position of nurse management and education, which gives her a unique perspective "from the top," so to speak. She'd also be able to advise you about what sort of education and training is involved. All in all, she's a great person to talk to, because she's naturally chatty and loves writing e-mails.
