So, Rick came home today and said that his Adv. Tech Theatre teacher passed back the last math problem that they had to do for homework. He stopped in front of Rick and proceeded to show him that he had written something on the paper. It said something like... Rick is the only person in his 20 years of teaching that got all of the aspects of that ( Read more... )

We are worried about the musical theatre part of drama too.
Good midi's are hard to find and people who create custom midi's are way expensive. That is why Rick did them himself. He doesn't have the time to make midi's with his schedule. Your best options are to...
1. find a pianist that can accompany you guys
2. search the internet for midi files (most of them are really bad though...they sound more like ring tones for a cell phone)
3. ask the band director if they still teach electronic music class and can they undertake some of your songs as class projects. (you would need to have the music ready when you ask though)

Remember...midi is not the only way to do a musical theatre program. With Rick's talents it was the easier obvious choice for us. It doesn't mean it is the only choice.

As far as music is concerned...the Orlando Public Library does have a musical scores collection. It doesn't have the new musicals but it has a decent selection. You can make your copies right at the library. Also, there are sights where sheet music can be ordered online. If you are choosing group numbers and such...it would be a good investment for drama club to purchase the music so that the school is building a collection. When we left drama club had a significant amount of money in the accounts. If you needed to hire a pianist to be able to continue with it...I am sure that Ms. Wooley can work it out.

I wish that we could help more but midi's take a LOT of time and Rick is at school ALL the time. I hope that everything works out though...we worked hard to get the interest in musical theatre where it is...and Rick fought for being able to teach that as a class. Before he was at Boone there wasn't a musical theatre elective. I hope that some of this helps. Take care of yourself and stay positive. We love and miss you.

Thank you so much for your suggestions!

We solved the midi problem today, actually. Kacey talked to the new band director today, and he said that he would make our midi's for districts.
Isn't that amazing?@! I almost cried when I found out.I was that happy.

That is why Rick did them himself. He doesn't have the time to make midi's with his schedule...
Oh, I totally understand.Which is why I wouldn't have ever dreamt(sp) of asking him. Keith suggested that I ask him, butI figured he would be incredibly busy, and besides, he needs a break from nagging drama kids once in a while.lol.
Yesterday in 7th period, Jen and I walked in the drama room and the first thing we heard was, "Once upon a time!" and we fell on the floor.
...and then acted the whole thing out.
I don't know what that had to do with anything, but I thought I'd let you guys know that we think of you everyday :D
Love you guys!
