I'm still in the process of looking for a labrador retriever puppy to adopt. I almost made a mistake of 'adopting' from what appeared on the surface to be a reputable site. Since I expressed interest in some of the puppies on
http://www.newyorklabradorbreeders.com, I've gotten emails, and have been playing phone tag with the supposed breeders. Something didn't feel right, and it seemed like they didn't care where the puppies went, as long as they got their money. I couldn't even get ahold of the actual breeder to ask specific questions unless I paid up front to reserve the puppy, which didn't make sense. I mentioned the prices to my mother and she was shocked at how much they were charging.
Upon further research, it seems as if they are a puppy mill. Purebred Breeders, LLC seems to have many different websites all advertising the same animals. Buypuppiesdirect.com seems to be another such site for the same company. I'm glad I listened to my gut and did more research.
So I'm back to square one, but am instead looking to adopt a rescue, or get a labrador puppy in person from a local breeder. I'm ready for a puppy, but only if it's done right and I don't want to support a puppy mill in any way.
