A post? An actual post?!?

Yes, I'm actually going to write something...hehehe

Things have been busy. December is always busy for me at work and this year is no exception. All those customers in the stores tend to cause more accidents and more paperwork and more mail for us. On top of it all, this is also nearing the end where the claims adjusters start hustling about closing claims quickly so we can get a better bonus.

When I'm not working, I have been seeing a lot of theatre and movies around town. Here's a list of what I've seen:

1. Camelot at the Aronoff. Lou Diamond Phillips starred as the legendary King Arthur in this musical about the fabled land. It was a beautiful show with some great singing. However, LDP cannot sing and Lancelot's French accent got very annoying after a while.

2. Enchanted. A Disney movie in which a princess is pushed out of her fairytale world and lands in modern day NYC. The movie is funny and is a parody of the classic Disney movies. Patrick Dempsey is dreamy as divorce attorney Robert and Amy Adams is delightfully ditzy as princess Giselle. Idina Menzel (of RENT and Wicked fame) also stars.

3. The Drowsy Chaperone at the Aronoff. Another touring show at the Aronoff. This is the story of an eccentric New Yorker who, when he's feeling down, decides to play a record (yes, a record) of his favorite 1920s musical "The Drowsy Chaperone." Once the needle hits the record, the musical of a starlet who decides to leave the stage to marry a man she just met comes alive in his apartment. It apparently parodies every gimmick from the musicals of that time and is hilariously funny. Our New Yorker offers color commentary throughout the show.

4. A Christmas Carol at Playhouse in the Park. We all know the classic Charles Dickens tale of Scrooge and his three ghostly visitors showing him the way. This has been a Cincinnati standard for years, but it's my first time seeing it performed. I now understand why people are so fond of it. There's some wonderful "theatrical magic" involved that makes it wonderful. Plus, it's very well produced, acted, and directed.

5. The Golden Compass. Friday night, I saw this fantasy movie with the Cincinnati Movie Bears (although Robbie and I arrived late and sat away from them). A nice movie with an interesting storyline involving an orphan girl named Lyra who is the only one who can read the golden compass, a device which allows you to see the truth. In this world, your soul lives besides you as an animal and there's a land of talking ice bears and air witches. It's rather fanciful and the it was well-played. The movie did feel a little long and ended to make room for the sequels.

WHEW! That took a while to get all down. I would say go see everything that I mentioned above (except Camelot, since it's gone). Definitely worth it. Also, there are several other theatre performances going on during the holiday season. Go to CinStages for more info!! ;-)
