Happy Thanksgiving

I have been meaning to post something substantial for a while, but I just hadn't had the energy to do so. Now that I have gotten through the family events for the holiday, I can calm down some.

Honestly, I have been a little apprehensive about coming to Louisville for Thanksgiving. As you should know, this is the first holiday after my sister's passing in June. I was a mix of emotions and almost didn't come down. I just wasn't sure how the family would interact now. We've had to do this a few times in the past when my aunt and my grandfather passed and we have made it through. For me, though, this was different. She was younger and there was so much promise with her.

One of the good things was that my mom did not host the festivities this year. One of my cousins, Jennifer, decided to host the family at large at her apartment in Lyndon. You would think an apartment wouldn't be big enough to host the family, but it was. It was a very large apartment with 3 bedrooms, a large living room/dining room space and plenty of chairs! There was some drama about having the event there, but it was solved.

For the most part, it was a great time. Lots of food and laughter and joy, as usual with my family. The tone stayed light and happy. We celebrated the younger children: my many 2nd cousins who are now teenagers and even a few are over 20. It's amazing, and a little heartwrenching at the same time. But, the moment passed and it was back to us being us.

It's been a good time here in Louisville and I hope to get to spend some more time here. We'll see what the weekend brings!

I hope every had a great Thanksgiving!!
