1. For a couple of weeks, I was heavily involved in the
Cincinnati New Light Festival. From Sept. 28 through Oct. 6, Jim and I participated in staged readings of plays by amazing playwright August Wilson. The festival was rather successful and it was a great opportunity. Mahogany, former Cincy Shakespeare actress, headed the event and founded the organization. She and I worked pretty well together, and there's the potential for more of this next year. I definitely enjoyed this and had a great time with it.
2. Speaking of theatre, Jim is involved in New Stage Collective's production of
Caroline, or Change. It starts its run October 25 (my birthday YAY!). NSC has been doing some great work and I am definitely looking forward to this show.
3. Speaking of my birthday, Robbie and I are heading to the
Bears on the Run tour to celebrate it when it hits Cincinnati on the 27th! Definitely looking forward to it!!!
4. Work, work and more work. That's all I have to say there LOL
5. This past Saturday I went to see the
Cincinnati Men's Chorus in the first concert for its 17th season: Hand in Hand. Their special guests were
MUSE: Cincinnati Women's Choir. The concert was lovely and had some beautiful singing and humorous moments, par for CMC. I thoroughly enjoyed MUSE and their performances and the final song they sung together, Battle of Jericho, was stirring. I wished they had sung it again!! Seeing the concert definitely made me miss the group and I heard many people (not just choristers, but audience members as well) say that they missed me. That made me feel really good. I will definitely be back in January!
6. On the family front, my mom is doing okay. During my trip back home in September, she revealed that her doctor believes she has depression. Future phone calls confirmed this. She's talking with a counselor, which is good. She's also sought legal aid to get the medical records regarding my sister. This is just a preliminary step. If the lawyers feel there is a good case for malpractice or wrongful death, this may be pursued. My mom is doing her best not to think about it, as am I. The holidays are going to be rough.
All in all, things have been busy. I have been doing my best to keep up to date with my fellow LJers, but usually that's all I have time for. I'll write when I can and keep you all updated. I hope everyone is doing well.
