My Funny Valentine...

Although Jim and I tried to surprise to each other for Valentine's Day, we both ended up figuring out what the other was getting us.

I wanted to do something special and something different. Last year, I was rather strapped for cash for some reason, so I ended up making him a card with a poem. It was from the heart and special in his own way and he loved it, but I did feel a little bad that I couldn't have done more. So, this year, I wanted to be different. I decided I would surprise Jim with a serenade from VocalPoint!, the smaller men's chorus of CMC. Not only would it be a sweet gesture, but it would also support the chorus. However, there was a small snag. Recently, Jim has been taking Tuesdays off work, so I wanted to make sure he was working. His boss (Caren) also is very flexible about scheduling. So, I had to ask Jim and made sure that he was working on Valentine's. Of course, it raised his suspicions and all that, but he didn't figure it out. Next, I called the costume shop and talked to Caren to get an okay for VP! to come down. She was like "sure!" The girls at the costume shop were all saying that I was getting him a stripper! (I wouldn't do that ^_~).

So the big day came. Jim told me later on that he woke up that morning and either looked in the newspaper or heard about it on the radio, and realized that I was getting him the serenade. Way to ruin the surprise! LOL But, he said that he really enjoyed it and so did his co-workers. He called me shortly after they left and thanked me. :-) It was a good day. I asked him about my surprise that evening and he didn't give me any hints (damn him ;-) Well, on my way to the bus, I walked past the Aronoff Center. Guess what was opening that night downtown? Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Amy Adams (from American Idol fame). I had a feeling this has something to do with my gift :-) Jim arrived a little after 7pm to pick me up. On the car seat was a card and a medium-sized box (kind of like a taller chinese take-ouy box). I decided to wait a little bit before finally opening my gift. Inside were two beanie baby teddy bears (so CUTE!). Jim asked me to look at their names: "Woody" and "Always". He said "You'll have my woody always!" Awwwwwwwww! It was so sweet! We drove around downtown looking for a place to park. I finally realized where we were going and I was right! ;-) We got our tickets and made it into the theatre. We were in the orchestra section, Row E, house right. Excellent seats! Before you get any ideas, Jim didn't "pay" for the tickets. He's media, so he receives comp tickets in such awesome seats as these. I'm so lucky.

The show was excellent! I was surprised at how wonderful it all was. Amy Adams was awesome as the narrator. She was able to show such versatility to her voice than she ever did on Idol. Plus, she has an amazing voice as well. She could have blown any of last season's contestants out of the water! It said in the program that she took time off to get married and have a child after the Idol tour. Patrick Cassidy was Joseph and did a great job as well. The show is very visually stimulating and extremely entertaining. There's a lot of song and dance moments that make the show fun to watch and I'm sure to be a part of. A couple of highlights include the Pharoah as Elvis (with rhinestone bell-bottoms cut to the knee and the typical Egyptian loincloth) and the waittress dancer in "Those Canaan Days." The end of the show featured what was coined a "Joseph Megamix" and including a more modern, up-tempo song & dance routine. The ensemble came out in more upbeat, modern clothes that had lots of flare, dancing and singing the various tunes of the musical. It was amazing. The only problem I had was the balance between the singers on stage and the orchestra. The orchestra at several moments overpowered the singers (it was a sound issue I am sure). Other than that, the show was awesome!

After the show, Jim was going to take me to Shanghai Mama's, but it turns out they now close at 9:30. Instead we made our way to Union Station and had a late bite. After that, we had a deep kiss and that was the evening. After getting upstairs, I actually had tears flowing. It's moments like this that make me realize how truly blessed I am to have Jim in my life. He's an astonishing and wonderful guy and I am completely in love with him! ILYJWS3!! :-*

I hope that you and yours, single or together, had a wonderful Valentine's Day. *HUGS*
