CMC Holiday Concert 2005: Chillin' Out Weekend

Dec 12, 2005 16:28

This weekend was CMC's first concert of their 15th Anniversary season Chillin' Out. It's our annual holiday concert and it went very well. Both nights had good houses, with Saturday even being sold out. Both audiences were responsive to a point (surprisingly our Saturday night audience wasn't as into it as usual). We hada few mistakes here and there, but (hopefully) none too showing to the audience (it's amazing how you can never mess up something until the concert and how everyone in the chorus does it, too).

Saturday night, we had several guests from Columbus Gay Men's Chorus and also some fellow LJers attend. This included vicvmichael, kybearfuzz, and mikiedoggie all the way from Chicago. I didn't get to say hello as I wanted to get in touch with Jim to find out what he wanted to do. We decided to follow with the crowd and made our way to Hamburger Mary's. I'm slowly coming to realize that, although I love HM and what they do for the community and all, it's just not my scene. The music was way too loud (this is bar area) and there was just nothing that really interested me. I was having to shout for Jim to hear me, which isn't good at all for my voice, and could barely hear him. There were a majority of CMCers there, so after hanging out for an hour, Jim and I vacated and made our way to the Serpent. Tonight was the "Mr. Serpent" contest. LOL and what a contest it was. The "highlights":

1. There were to be six contestants. Only two showed up.
2. The contest was slated to start at midnight. It didn't start until 12:30.
3. The contest consisted of two questions to each contestant.
4. The contest lasted 9 minutes!

Overall, a pretty pointless contest. I don't know what it is about these "contests," but why have them if you don't have contestants. The purpose of the Mr. Serpent contest was for us to have a contestants for the Mid-States Leatherman contest next year (I believe this is to be it). The two contestants were both pretty hot in their own way. Not my usual type of guy, but hot. Jim and I spent some time together in the back and basically "put on a show" of our own *EG* I got home close to 2am and chatted a bit before heading to bed.

Sunday's concert went just as well and afterwards, Jim and I plus a majority of the choristers headed to College Hill for the cast party at CMCer Bruce and his partner Doug's home. Delicious food was eaten, many drinks (non- and alcoholic varieties) were consumed and fun was had by all. During the party, the 15 or so people who signed up to do Secret Santa gifts were revealed. I had been getting some wonderful gifts the past couple of weeks and was surprised that my SS was our director, Patrick. For my final gift, I received two holiday CDs. One by a woman whom I have not heard of but have been told is very good. The other caused me to shriek in delight (yes, I am a 1st Tenor): Broadway's Greatest Gifts Volume 7: Carols for a Cure!! It's an amazing compilation of holiday songs being sung by various casts of the different shows on Broadway! I've been listening to it all day today at work and absolutely LOVE it! I will listen to the other CD soon. Jim and I hung out for a little while longer. One of the things I love about Jim is his ability to be social in any situation, able to engage in conversation with anyone. It makes it much easier for me to open myslef up. We had some delightful conversation and then left close to 7pm, Jim dropping me off so he could get home to do some things for himself. I chatted and watched TV before finally heading to bed. A great weekend, although busy.
