A little bit more catch-up, so here's what happened this weekend. :-)
Last Saturday, John from CMC picked me up and we made our way to Dayton for CMC's annual concert sponsored by PFLAG-Dayton. I was a little hesitant about this concert. I did not think we were fully prepared for it (we were at about 80%) and I personally didn't feel ready. Arriving somewhat late (the drive took longer than usual) added to that. However, we got through rehearsals and I grew a little more confident. The people of Dayton and PFLAG always seem to enjoy our performances no matter how we do anyway. The final bit of rehearsal (which started to fall into our dinnertime) was spent singing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" with the Dayton Men's Chorus. DMC has only been around for a few years and they are steadily growing. This year, they impressed me. I noticed a couple of familiar faces (Jim and Steve who I have met before) and there were several new faces (at least to me). It was nice and the rehearsal ended on a good note.
Sooner than later, we got ready for the concert. The concert itself went pretty well, I must say. The audience definitely helped out. It was packed as usual despite the weather taking an ugly turn during the day and early evening. There were some obvious flubs and mistakes, but it did come off very well. I was happy with the outcome.
After the concert, I found out from Steve that he had convinced our friend Jorge to come to see the concert. While talking with him and corresponding with my bf Jim who was on his way up after doing his on show (which will cause him to miss CMC's concert), we decided to head over to Cell Block. Walking outside to his car after dressing showed my just how bad the weather was. It was icy everywhere! I also had on the wrong shoes to be walking around in this stuff! Slipping and sliding, I eventually made it to Jorge's car, and he and his friend, Keith, and I made our way to Cell Block. Jim had said to me that tonight was supposedly another "blackout party," so I knew sort of what to expect. However, it was quite dead in there. I'm assuming this is due in part to the weather and probably also due to the hour (it was around 10pm). Jorge, Keith, and I grabbed some drinks and a table and made ourselves company. Soon, both Jims arrived and we took everything in. Another DMC member Dave showed up and we all decided to head upstairs to see what was going on. It was nice and the bar looks very promising (despite the name "Cell Block"). However, due the lack of anything really going on and the fact that I was growing more tired, Jim and I departed and went back to Cincy. The drive was uneventful and we talked a little bit, but I mostly slept. It had been a rough night on Friday and being up and about all day and night for the concert didn't help much either. Jim dropped me off at home and I promptly went to bed.
This week is Hell Week for CMC as we prepare for our annual holiday concert at the Aronoff. According to the numbers, Saturday night is practically sold out, but Sunday still had some availability. Rehearsal on Tuesday was rough for me. For some reason I was getting really hot under the lights (which usually isn't that big a problem for me) and after doing the choreography for one song over and over and over again, I finally needed to litereally sit down for a minute as I started getting dizzy. I grabbed some water and felt better, but it still bothered me some. Hopefully it will improve as time goes on. Tonight is the first rehearsal with the brass band and Friday is a final dress rehearsal before Saturday's big day.
