A Little Bit of Sunshine in a World of Darkness...

Apr 18, 2007 09:29

I just wanted to post, I know I never do...but in light of the incidents that occured on Monday at Virginia Tech where many of my high school classmates attend, I thought it necessary to log in.

Such an unexpected occurance is a tragedy, both for the people who were effected, the unfortunate gunman who was so unhappy he felt it necessary to take 32plus lives, including his own, and the members of the VT community. It makes me realize how short life is, and that no matter how we plan out our own lives, we will never really be sure that things will go the way we want them to.

A friend of mine at Elon, and graduate of Westfield High School Kevin Manship lost two very dear friends. This hits so close to home for me. Westfield is right down the road from us...and seeing Kevin experience such loss makes me feel as if I have lost just as much as he has.

Not only have 61 people been directly effected by this massacre, but our entire country has been shaken. I see now more and more the repercussions of a society that has decided to ignore and stop reaching out to those kids who just don't fit in, the lack of resources for adolescents to express themselves in a positive manner, and the sickening drive of 24-hour news stations to find someone to BLAME.

Its time to make a change...and all I know to do at this point in my own life is to tell you, each one of you who is reading this, that I LOVE YOU. You have a friend in me, and no matter what has happened between us to make us drift apart - whether it be disagreement, misunderstanding, or simply distance, I want you to know that you are on my mind this week, and I will always think of you.

To all of you, and there are too many to name.

May God TRULY bless you, and bring you to His glory.

-Beth
