Scientists warn of Mount St. Helens eruption

MOUNT ST. HELENS, Washington (AP) -- Mount St. Helens began rumbling more intensely Wednesday, prompting scientists to warn that a small or moderate eruption could come in the next few days.

Earthquakes of magnitude 2 to 2.5 were happening four times a minute, possibly weakening the lava dome in the crater of the 8,364-foot mountain, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Scientists said they are not expecting anything like the mountain's devastating eruption in 1980, which killed 57 people and coated towns 250 miles away with ash. But a small or moderate blast could coat an area three miles around the volcano's crater with ash, scientists said.

Few people live near the mountain, which is surrounded by a national monument and a national forest.

The Geological Survey has been monitoring St. Helens closely since last Thursday, when swarms of tiny earthquakes were first recorded. On Sunday, they issued a notice of volcanic unrest, closing the crater and upper flanks of the volcano to hikers and climbers.

Scientists said they believe the seismic activity is being caused by pressure from a reservoir of molten rock a little more than a mile below the crater.

Scientists have also been keeping a close eye on the 925-foot-tall dome of hardened lava that has grown inside the crater since the May 18, 1980, eruption that blew the top off the mountain.

Seismologist George Thomas at the University of Washington said that on a scale of zero to 10, with 10 being the 1980 eruption, the current activity would rate a one.

"The alerts we're sending out are just to protect hikers and scientists doing research within the crater," he said.

My favorite scientific study! I wanna see this! Well if it happens. I am obsessed with Volcanic activity. So my brother-in-law was in Los Angeles when the 6.5 magnitude Earthqauke hit North L.A.
I think the world is slowly coming to a close.
Florida is underwater due to the hurricanes.
Earthquake in LA
Asteriod passing Earth at close range
Mt. St. Helens eruption coming soon

What's next??

Oh so guess who got a 89 on their Math test. ME!
Yeah I was like AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
No seriously
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I went to to Barnes and Noble with Daniel again today. We were bored.
we laughed our way through John Kerry's 200 page book.
It was the worst thing I ever read.
Whoever told him in Grade School that he could write was totally lying to him Poor guy.

HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS IN 2 DAYS!!!!!!!!!
