Summary

The world has ended.

9/10ths of the world’s population has died off, either due to the initial disaster or from the paranoid results that followed. The survivors are a short-lived people, with not nearly enough to repopulate the Earth, and without much of a motivation to due so (or an Earth that will still be liveable in the future.)

The tectonic plates have all started to fall apart, and the magnetic poles are falling apart at a worryingly fast pace. Volcanoes and crevices on land have already started to crack and fall apart, killing most of everything on the planet surface. The poles have started to creep farther and farther forward, with the atmosphere/stratosphere/any of the spheres deteriorating as quickly as they are. The ocean is receding, drying up, being polluted from all sides. Animals are dying off faster than when the meteor hit and the more extreme of the climates on the Earth are quickly becoming completely unliveable.

Most of the major cities have completely fallen to ruin, and what traces are left of the more accessible ones are usually abandoned. The major climates of the world have increased to the point where its completely unlivable. Deserts have begun to easily reach daytime temperatures of over 200 degrees, the sand itself slowly turning to glass over the extreme climates. Everything in the tropical areas is becoming a fire zone, and the polar climates are returning to a state of the ice age. There is only a thin strip of 'climate zone' between the two extremes that are capable of human life anymore.

It is approximately 110 years into the future from today’s modern world. Technology has improved by leaps and bounds, and the world was slowly suffering even before the disaster. Medicine was prolonging people’s lives by centuries. Weapons were becoming faster, sleeker and more deadly. Fashion and pop culture were quickly adapting to the ‘futuristic’ sense of today’s world. A person could go from Alaska to Madagascar in 4 hours in an economy flight, and the stretch into space was going farther and farther. A population colony on the moon was being planned, and one for Mars was underway. An alternate form of gasoline had been invented, though some people still insisted on being dependent on the fossil fuel. Wheels were faster, buildings went higher, and people lived longer. It was all bound to crash eventually.

America had developed into an almighty superpower, which had fused with China, Russia, the United Nations, and other countries to become the United Council of Earth (UCE). It was basically a way for the United States and the other super-powers to control the other countries even more, and more political unrest to go into frenzy. The Middle East became even more paranoid and most of the other countries not already included in the UCE were avoiding it like the plague or signing up for a seat on the council. People usually stood by the idea of ‘patriotic pride for your country’ or ‘all stand under one flag’ for the two divisions of the world.

Gene splicing had also been a new medical practice that had become common, and was now being abused for the sake of cosmetics. Doctors could mildly infuse a human with the genes from another animal and attribute a characteristic of the animal to the human. Unfortunately this involved the death of the animal, and so a few species were quick to be hunted almost to extinction. The process was also irreversible. Cloning became the basic practice for the infusions, but most people wanted infusions from exceptional animals, thus protection of animals and zoo’s was enhanced tenfold. It was more common for a family to have a cloned dog, while real animals were usually reserved for those with exceptional bank accounts. Splicing usually only ever went as far as minor bone reconstruction or skin hue changing. These changes also usually took about 2-4 months to fully develop, and traits of the animal were common, though avoidable. Cat’s and lizards were the most common to be spliced. Legally, a person was only allowed 3 splices (due to the animal behaviour becoming increasingly dangerous to ignore after this) but there are fantastic stories of people who had gone ahead and had one too many infusions and destroyed themselves or something else in the process.

Fashion-wise, technology was all the rage. The more high-tech your were, the cooler you were. Clothing was generally strap-like and almost military-esque. Trends came and went but the general idea stayed the same. Modesty has also depleted drastically (it is not uncommon for men to be accepted into establishments without a shirt and women wearing little more than taped-on outfits). The ‘rave’ idea had recently come into practice by the time of the disaster, with lots of glowing strips and neon. By the standards of he time, it was very 'retro'.

THE DISASTER

The UCE had its own scientists, doctors, surgeons, geneticists, and many more experts under its control. With the major powers of the Earth in one place, it was easy for the UCE leaders to rope together the most brilliant minds of the age and get them to work on something to…convince the rest of the world to join them. With the entire Earth under one flag, there was no end to the power play that would inevitably ensue from the UCE.

One of the geneticists in this group was one Dr. Marcus Thomaston. While a brilliant man, his morals were questionable and his attitude left a lot to be desired. A lot of the brilliant minds in his division were testy though, so usually no one payed him any mind as long as he churned out results from his research. Being an ever-curious bugger, Thomaston used every trick he knew to find out what the UCE was trying to make.

A human weapon. He had wanted to cry from the cliché right then and there. It was something reserved for science fiction and pathetic novels. He almost resigned right then and there, but luckily remembered that the UCE owned his body and soul- and there was nowhere to run. Instead he played the sneaky spy and connected the dots of the mission until he was sure he found the root- the source. The three ingredients to the UCE’s ‘persuasion’. The key’s of heaven, hell, and the in-between of Earth.

One was a feather. A feather that was encased in something that resembled little more than a shimmering bubble above some impressive-looking technology. It shone so brightly that Thomaston could hardly see it was a feather even through the tinted glass. Even being near it made his heart race and his hair stand on end. It was a device of power, this feather. He refused to admit it at the time, he refused to even think it, but it was an Angel feather. The only one that the collective governments of the world had ever gotten their hands on.

The second was a vial. Hardly three inches long or half an inch wide- capped with an old-fashioned cork and sealed with wax. Thomaston thought that the vial was merely not illuminated, but discovered that no light would actually shine on the vial, even when he took out his handheld light and attempted to brighten the darkness that surrounded it. Rather than being filled with power, the vial seemed to suck the energy and vitality right from him. He stepped away and dared not go closer to it, lest be overwhelmed by the power of the item.

The third was a chair. A simple, wooden chair, on a podium between the two devices. There were padlocks along the arms and it was bolted securely in place by ridiculously huge braces.

The concept of hevan and hell is hopefully, loose enough. Angels and Demons have nothing to do with the story itself, just used as devices. Religion plays a factor with a few of the characters, but it is not the major motivation it used to be. Alot of the survivors have actually lost their faith in God. It serves as a minor comfort on those who are severely dedicated but also as a huge fighting topic amoungst the survivors who don't even believe in God.

The only 'creatures' that really exist are ghouls- which are basically spirits and bodies that Sovena fashions together. She eats people to keep herself on the mortal plane, but after awhile she begins to experiment.

SOVENA: The main antagonist
Mostly all she does in the world is eat people, fuck with their spirits and their bodies, mindfuck a few of the survivors, and try to remember what sweets tasted like. Beforehand, she was the daughter of a diplomat specifically raised for this shit. Not the only one, shut up animewhores. I know it sounds really gay and cliche, but really, if you were gonna do something that hardcore to a living being, you'd have to prep them, woudnt you? But she is cooler once she's an insane tri-creature that destroys the world and FUCKS SHIT THE FUCK UP.

Sovena doesn't outright kill Thomaston because she finds him facinating, a 'father-figure' almost, he was the first man she saw after she got her shit fucked up. So she has a facination with him like the sense of a newborn chick thinking the first thing it sees is its mother. THOMASTON IS NOT PLEASED BY THIS. Sometimes Sovena tears apart all his security and she shows him a kitten she has found or demands that he fix her an ice-cream or a slushee machine she found while tearing apart souls in like, idk Versailles or something. He spend most of his time trying to escape from her wrath and trying to undo the effect of her being.

MAGES:
Uhhmmm Marciel is a Mage. They were a sub-species of human that came about because there was a little too much genetic fuckery going on and evolution (this is a topic of debate right here, to be elaborated on later) was like 'lol you bitches lets try some new shit'. Mages are just like, psychics, or seers. They are extra-sensitive to the supernatural-ish bullshit that Sovena would pull and can also sense alot about people. They were fashioning their own religion and subculture before shit decided to go down.

Mages survive moreso than usual because they have a heightened natural instinct to sense ghouls. Most people that didn't die in the initial disaster either killed each other, were eaten, or taken out by the ghouls. Most of the survivor parties have one or more Mages with them.

Marciel is a full Mage, but half-Mages exist as well, though they are not as sensitive as a full. Jace is a half Mage, much to his dismay. His parents died in the chaos after the initial disaster and he lost Marvey to a ghoul when they were evacuating Russia. Jace pretty much thinks he has suffered the most and won't put up with people bitching that they have it worse.

CYBORGS/ANDROIDS:
Lyrin is a cyborg, it was illigal, but no-one really gives a flying fuck nowadays. His parents died in the initial disaster. Lyra, Lysander, and himself tried to survuve as best they could, amd made it through the chaos, but Sovena got hold of them when they were making their way through South America. Lysander ended up a ghoul, and Lyra was torn apart, body FROM soul, and eaten. Lyra is basically a ghost, more tangent than the average spirit, and really all she can do is hang around and hope her brother doesn't die. If he were more human, she would be able to talk to him in his dreams or some shit, but its hard for her to connect with him because of all the machinery. After his siblings were killed, he just digressed farther and farther into the mindsent of a machiene, just trying to nullify all that was left of him that was human. Marciel eventually found him, and they convinced him to join their punk-ass little scooby gang. The net of technology still functions, even if there is no-one left to maintain it, so Lyrins' job is to hack into all the shit he can find and try to see if they are safe in that area, or if anyone else is around. Most of the other survivors arent exactly safe, either, so the little group of misfits tries to avoid them as much as possible.

BUT YEAH i will go over there. I knwo alot of this is gay and doesnt make sense orzorzorz

especially since you don't really know who ANYONE IS. More posts will explain details i guess lol....
