The Magnetic Fields - "The Charm of the Highway Strip"

I've decided that any time I hear an album that I really think is the shit I'm just gonna write about it in here.  I don't care if anybody pays any attention :P  For a while I was considering just converting this whole thing into nothing but music reviews but then my friends all started flocking back to LiveJournal and I started updating for real real.

I had only heard a little about The Magnetic Fields before I picked up this little gem at the Nelsonville Public Library (which has a surprisingly decent selection of music).  All I knew about them is that they were an indie pop/rock group that had been around since the 90's and that most people agreed that they were pretty awesome.  So I took a listen and I was pretty pleased.  The lyrics are all very country-sounding; if you were to just read the lyrics to any given song on this album you'd probably think it was a country album.  But the music sounds kinda like The Flaming Lips and the singer sounds a lot like the guy from Cake (actually, the singer sounds A LOT like this guy Chad I work with).  Anyway, really bitchin' genius stuff.  Check it out.

Highlights:  "Lonely Highway", "Crowd of Drifters", and "Fear of Trains" (my favorite)
