TWITTERSODES

TWANSMITTER
Much like twitter itself, the anarchic twitteRPG seen here continues to evolve and captivate in unpredictable ways despite its many limitations and erratic uptime. Twitter's capacity to support diverse forms of communication and creativity far beyond its stated purpose has garnered a lot of attention, particularly for those uses that ( Read more... )

I am Laura Roslin. I was going to explain further, but the Laura Roslin part of my brain forbid it. She's not a big fan of transparency.

(well ok I will)

Most simply: I loved reading all of the BSG twittering. You all seriously crack me up. I wanted in on the basestar and the hot tub and the irradiated Earth. I had planned on choosing a character, though I wasn't sure which one.

As Mad Men twittering heated up I became irrationally concerned (by my undying love of Laura) that someone would notice her missing and play a Laura Roslin who was not femslash friendly, or at worst, perform a characterization that undermined everything I love about Laura Roslin. (I refuse to read those fics, but I've heard the fandom lore and it frightens me).

My early anonymity was mostly determined by fear of inadvertently committing character assassination. If I did, that was the last thing I wanted tied to my more stable net-identity. (and since the feedback appears positive, a reveal is much less scary)

As for knowing who was playing who: I didn't. I only knew who was playing and that they were from thearchive2 and bsg_femslash. OK most of my suspicions on character/user pairings were accurate, but not exactly concrete knowledge.

And lastly, what you all have built over in Twitter may be frivolous as noted, but as a reader and now playing Laura Roslin, it is EPICALLY ENTERTAINING.

I think that pretty much covers it, for now?

oh also- OMFGS TWITTERING LAURA ROSLIN IS THE MOST FUN THING EVAAAAAAH. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH CAPSLOCK IN TEH WORLD.

I thank you for this KIND AND SELFLESS SERVICE.

Also, welcome!

Also, yes, IC twittering (in my case as a drunken, one-eyed, insane robot XO) IS the funnest thing ever. I think it might get even more epically funny when there are actual episodes airing. XD

I AM HAPPY TO PLEASURE SERVE AT THE PLEASURE OF LAURA ROSLIN (and her beloved devotees).

Thanks! :D

Your batshit-crazy, drunken, space pirate regularly has me falling out of my chair. So THANK YOU for the EPIC LULZ. Easily my favorite Saul Tigh ever.

When the actual episodes air, has it been discussed whether it will be live-twittering, like the finale, or post-episode twittering?

Oh I agree! The series is standing on the boiling point. There really is no way around it. Canon is practically begging for crack. XD

1. YOU ARE SOOOOOO SNEAKY!

2. I AM KIND OF IN LOVE WITH YOU, GAH. (really, you're doing an amazing job)

3. I was ALSO worried that a laaaaaaame Laura Roslin would turn up, and not irrationally. But not worried enough to actually recruit (well, I did try and fail to get runawaynun to do it), because I do love the anarchy of it. Look how much suspenseful excitement I would have missed out on had I orchestrated this deliberately!

4. we should schedule a time to actually sit down to this meeting, seriously. what timezone are you in, and what are you doing this weekend? I'm available whenever, so just let me know.

5. one small hitch in this plan is that I actually HAVEN'T decided who Tory should recommend as Chief of Staff. of course ideally it would be herself, but that could create problems if we want to continue tweeting to canon when the show comes back. and not being as on top of things as Tory, I'm a little fuzzy on where everyone was when we left them at the end of 4.0 -- Lee is Caprica's Quorum delegate? Tom Zarek is his bitch? He might be a LOLarious assistant pick. Otherwise we could try to create/recruit a minor character like Dee or Seelix, or poke around for actual spoilers. or I could suggest Centurion0110 :D

6. THERE REALLY ISN'T ENOUGH CAPSLOCK ANYWHERE.

(why does nobody want to play any of the Sharons?)

you would never think I could twitter from the length of my lj comments... metatxt November 16 2008, 03:08:12 UTC
1. VERY! >;D

2. FLATTERED (BLUSHING) AND SLIGHTLY SPEECHLESS (in the best way). Sometimes I jokingly think of certain people in fandom as “keepers of (character)” for having a reading closest to how I perceive the characters that also adds insight to my own understanding; and for me, you have always been a ‘keeper of Laura Roslin.’ So, yeah... I think I’m going to reread that tweet at least a dozen times over if you don’t mind XD

3. OK I don't really think it is irrational. The threat was VERY REAL. But, it felt irrational. Not to mention, I put Laura on an impossible pedestal, so the ideas of somebody failing at playing her or *me* being the person who made her less-than were both spurred by my Laura-worship. And that felt silly.

the anarchy-factor: I thought of that too! Because I do subscribe to the femslash fanon that has been developed here with rare exceptions, I was concerned that even though I don’t have the history the rest of theArchive2 twitterers have together, my perspective could come across as derivative, or at worst, without nuance in chorus with the other twitterers. Obviously, I got over it.

The anonymity was *incredibly* fun. If the possibilities of collaborating were not so fantastic, I might actually mourn my secret-Laura-Roslin existence.

4. AH! Sorry for the late-ish reply. A meeting is an excellent idea! I'm in PST. Most of my plans tomorrow are flexible during the midday, so anytime between 11am and 7pm PST will work. What IM service do you prefer? I have LJ Talk, AIM, and MSN. grrl unscripted (or grrl_unscripted) on all three.

5. That is a quandary. There are several scary points about strictly adhering to canon when it comes to Laura Roslin and S4.5 (unless she’s the final cylon, which is maybe, the best of all possible worlds...surely, the Cylon God would agree). I am also a bit fuzzy on where the characters are as we left off, as well as the character perspectives of the Lee Adama and Tom Zarek twitterers. Dee or Seelix would be very interesting. Ha! Centurion 0110 as Laura’s assistant certainly explains that photo.

In either case, I think we need to have a Laura/Tory strategy, since sticking around would probably hamper Tory’s individual development, even if it keeps her in Laura’s day-to-day.

6. Um, maybe people who would play a Sharon, are as D'Anna said, "distracted when they see something shiny?" I don't know, but I really wondered about that, as well. If there were a Sharon, I'd hope there'd be a both a Boomer and an Athena to play off each other. Also, I REALLY want to do something with the Operahouse and a Sharon would be helpful; though, I certainly don’t have all of the details hammered out, and I think we could pull it off without her.

I AM ALSO CONCERNED: HOW DO I TWITTER HER FABULOUS HAIR?!

(edit: weird word-choice typo)

*mwah*

I'm headed for bed, just popping in quickly to say that I'll catch you on AIM tomorrow. I'm pandora8julie. maybe we can strategize on the early end of your window and actually twitter on the late end of your window? I have a huge chunk of work to do in between, so the ends are better for me. \o/
