Marijuana is an herb, not a drug.
Before, I would always try to keep my pot-use somewhat of a secret. I was brainwashed, like millions of other people, into thinking that, because of my habit, I was a sinner and/or a criminal.
What I realized is that the only reason marijuana is bad, is because it is illegal. People have been using it everywhere around the world since it has been discovered, and there has not been a single case of a direct death from the use of marijuana. People are killed in drugdeals because a person has no better source.
If private marijuana use were to be made legal, several things would happen. 1.) Millions of people (including important authority figures) would reveal that they do in fact, use marijuana as a passtime. 2.) The people who don't use it (whos only reason for not using it, is because it is illegal, and it could cause them their job) would take it back up. 3.) People would realize that its use is not dangerous at all, on the contrary, people would realize the BENEFITS of marijuana use. 4.) Crime rates would drop all around the world DRAMATICALLY. 5.) Because of all these reasons, the world would be a better place.
Now lets consider the other side of the argument.
Chief Harry J. Anslinger of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (the man who made pot illegal) states
"Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white people."
Hearst Newpapers, who played a major role in the prohibition of marijuana had this to say...
"Marihuana influences Negroes to look at white people in the eye, step on white men's shadows and look at a white woman twice."
And Emily Murphy, a campaigner for cannabis prohibition in Canada gave this reason...
"Persons using this narcotic [marijuana] smoke the dried leaves of the plant, which has the effect of driving them completely insane. The addict loses all sense of moral responsibility. Addicts to this drug, while under its influence, are immune to pain, and could be injured without having any realization of their condition. While in this condition they become raving maniacs and are liable to kill or indulge in any form of violence to other persons, using the most savage methods of cruelty without, as said before, any sense of moral responsibility. . . . If this drug is indulged in to any great extent, it ends in the untimely death of its addict."
First off, i think everyone will agree that all of these statements are ridiculous.
Secondly, how can we, a country who fights so hard to spread the idea of equality, follow a law that was based on false racial stereotypes? Also, Anyone who has ever been under the influence of marijuana knows for a fact that it only gives its users a better attitude, and its actually quite hard to be mean at all while under the influence. These statements hold no truth what-so-ever.
Anyone who knows anything, knows that marijuana use poses little or no danger to the user. For those who use the excuse that the smoke is worse than that of tobacco (a legal substance by the way) i say, that if used with a water pipe/bong, the smoke is much less harsh, and if it is inhaled with the use of a humidifier, or eaten, it eliminates any danger caused by the smoke at all.
Im sure tobacco can not be eaten in order to induce the same effects it has when it is smoked. Therefore, you cannot get rid of the risk of cancer. We all know alcohol is a lot worse than marijuana can EVER be. So why are these substances legal, yet the use of marijuna is illegal? The answer, is miseducation. Show me a person who thinks marijuana should be illegal, and I'll show you an ignorant fool.
If a user is irresponsible while under the use of marijuana, by all means, punish them. But if they use it responsibly, there should be no punishment. It is in fact, safer than tobacco, and alcohol. It has even been proven that replacing the use of alcohol and tobacco, with marijuana can increase your life by 20 years or so.
By this entry, I am in no way telling people to go out and smoke. I am simply letting people know the truth. But hey, if you dont beleive me, Educate yourself.
