Net Neutraility Act

First off, I have discovered the single greatest misdirection trick in the history of man. If you're a lobbist and you want people to be against something that is in fact good for them, propose a bill that is named the good thing. Example "net neutrality". Thus, if you hear that the major corporations want to propose the 'net neutrailty bill', you think that if its good for them, its bad for you, and thus, you are now anti-net neutrality, which is actually a bad thing.

So the issue of Net Neutrality:

Basically, large corporations like AOL Time Warner want to propose a 2 tiered system for the internet, allowing the large corporations to have more power; essentially, any data that THEY handle, they thing should be given VIP treatment and allowed to move faster. And, of course, any ISP companies would be able to offer civilians the same special treatment most corporations get, but at a substantial price. Obviously, you can file this one under "way un-fucking-fair" if it gets through. I personally hope it doesnt go through, and I don't really expect it to, but if it does, I want the big corporations to have to pay through the nose for this shit. I mean, you're a major multi-national corporation. Think about how many phone lines you have. But, you only have one internet connection(its a BIG FUCK OFF internet connection, but its essentially one connection). You want to talk more, you buy more phone lines. You want your shit to move faster, you should just buy more servers or pay your ISP to up your service. Don't limit the rest of us. Yes, I'll fully admit that a lot of people use the internet for dumb things(but as recent evidence has shown, it WAS in fact invented for porn), but that is all within the rights of the internet to begin with. Free information sharing. Yes, there is illegal and pornographic and even dangerous material being thrown around liberally, but there is also a wealth of knowledge that people would have otherwise been oblivious to. World events, politics, beautiful art styles that havent picked up in their country. Whatever it is, it should all be free and equal. Thats the idea behind what the internet is now; everyone can get on and say whatever they want in the largest public forum in history. People REALLY need to stop looking at everything in existance and saying to themselves "How can I profit off of this?" It usually only leads to trouble anyway.

A cautionary tale: We all know how the RIAA has tried to combat illegal music downloads. The last time someone tried to fuck with net nerds on their own turf, it turned out to be a BIG mistake. Madonna was pissed that people weren't paying for her music, so she hired someone to encode a virus and label it as an MP3 of one of her new songs. The hackers fought back, and attacked her website, disabling the pay-check service on it. Bottom line: everyone was able to get all the songs she had online free for days before the hackers relented. It's a bad idea to fuck with people on their own territory, and I don't care how well protected the corporations think they are; they're not. Its the same message from Fight Club "Don't fuck with us."
