i'm on doxycycline, and i guess it varies person to person, but i'm having no problems. but then again, my stomach is basically a trash compactor and it takes a lot to fuck it up, and i am something of a d-rab so the sun has just given me a tan.

my friend drew's girlfriend was in africa and was on malarone, but still got malaria. apparently the mosquitos in africa are really really intense, and plenty of people get malaria anyway, so it might not make sense to waste a lot of money.

mefloquin (larium) has many horror stories surrounding it, and they're apparently true, but one will often hear the worst stories that rarely occur. however, if you've a family history of mood disorders, it could be a bad idea.

my vote is doxycycline, because of my good experiences as well as because of this: doxycycline is apparently being proved to be effective in reducing the likelyhood of getting several tropical diseases, such as encephilitis and perhaps dengue (i don't know if they're in africa, i would assume so though). i heard this from a world traveler i met here in jaipur, and she appeared to know what she was talking about, although you never know.
