I've just found out that George, the most kick-ass bartender whose path I've ever crossed, has passed away. For the past five years or so, George has been the regular bartender at what was Bound Hartford. Even though he worked for the Webster, and not us at Bound, he would go out of his way to make our experience better by distributing flyers ( Read more... )

I'm with you. George was the light of my life when I moved to CT, because he made the Webster a dive bar you could call home. Such things are important.

More important that people who hadn't been there could imagine. It was good sharing a drink to his honor with you tonight.

Oh no. George was an amazing man, aside from being the bartender I tried to be when I was doing it. He was so incredibly down to earth, humble, and open that he made Bound and the Webster feel like home, regardless of what else may or may not have been going on.

I still remember the glint in his eye when he'd hand me my "small shot of Jager." I'd look at him in amazement... seemed they got bigger every month. He'd just smile and shrug and tell me he knew I could drink it down. I swear he just liked to watch my convulsions from it. :) Not that it ever stopped me from getting another one later in the night, of course.

He was most definitely as much a part of the Bound family as any staff member who ever worked there. Even though I've not gone back to Bound since I moved back to Colorado, there's an empty space at the Webster now that no one will ever be able to fill.

Rest easy, George.

yeah, he was a great guy. And he'd always ask if I had any info on how you were doing "out west, where ever you went".

he always remembered the folk that mattered.
