Something sad happened last week. The lovely and talented
Kurt Vonnegut Jr has died. Cat's Cradle was one of my favorites mainly
because at a young age I could never understand how a scientist could unwittingly allow
his work to be used for mass destruction and death .. then I read
Cat's Cradle and found out the world wasn't this black and white entity I had thought it was for almost 20 years of my life. It is a pink creature with multi coloured spots and like the 3 blind men, we see only that which is taken out of context. I read it when I was in my 3rd year of studies and had just transferred out of engineering .. I read it the year after the
Montréal Massacre .. I read it in
my parent's basement.
Something happy happened to me this weekend. Had a show at Latitude for
Stem Cell which was hoots of good times. The gig was filled with beautiful out of towners .. a strange and lovely breed called the
imaAamis. In particular I met a lovely gent from
'toon town who spoke such pretty words to me like
Pd/GEM,
ICMC,
Norway and such. Hung with many cool peeps especially my friend
Jfry from Calgary and danced until the wee hours were not so wee on Sat and spent Sunday watching episodes of BattleStar Galactica.
Next show is in a coupla weeks at
Avenue Skate Park for the
May Week Labour Arts Festival (with my good friend
jake who is also from the 'toon town .. swoon .. 'toon town boys) Will keep you posted.
