i thought i should put in a flashback to the 16th of january. mainly beacuse it was one of the coolest days ever. because i went to the big day out, which is a massive music festival that plays in new zealand, and is like the only one of it's kind in new zealand. it was a massive trip. i got 5 days off work, which would have been sweet in itself, as i have been working 6 days a week in my job for like...ages now, in a desperate bid to get some money for university. but anyway. i flew to auckland, where the concert was being held, and also where i lived until i was 14. luckily accomodation was cheap, as my friend and i were staying with some old friends of my family. the day of the concert came around, and naturally i woke up feeling stoked as hell, were running a bit late for the ferry that would take us to the train station, so breakfast was had en route, and luckily managed to get into the train heading out to the concert. with like a thousand other people. it was crowded to say the least, but everyone was in a good mood because they were all going to the big day out aswell. after finally getting off the train and walking a little bit, we finally got to the stadium the festival is situated around. then we had to wait in line for like 30 minutes to get in, so we missed the first act of the day we had planned to see, deja voodoo, but...oh well. got to see the second act we wanted to though...elemeno p, which was a good set to start off with, because they are just the perfect lazy summer afternoon band. after that there was a bit of down time before any other good acts, so we cruised around the markets and merchandising tents, where i got my cool new t shirt. after that we headed up to the beer garden and stocked up on a few beers, then headed into the stands and had a drink and watched the black eyed peas on the main screen..they were ok, but not really my scene. then into was into the mosh for one of my favourite new zealand bands, blindspott (the other is elemeno p) the mosh went off, as did the band, and i managed to get a few pictures, unfortunately my camera's zoom just makes the pictures blurry, so i couldn't get any close ups. after a good hours worth of moshing and being kicked in the head by crowd surfers, it was time for a break, and some food. with did both and watched from the stands as the dandy warhols played what was widely regarded as the shittest set of the day. then the datsuns played, and they played a damn good set. after that it was muse...who are jsut to whiny for my tastes...they remind me too much of coldplay, the whiniest band in the world. then it was pack down to the mosh pit to work our way forward for the upcoming set by metallica...who i don't really like, but my friend who is a big fan somehow convinced me i had to go into the mosh. as we worked our way forward, the strokes played their set...which was just wicked. it was easily my pick for best set of the day. i liked it so much i bought their new cd the next day. anyway, after the strokes finished, it was metallica. like i said, i don't really like metallica, and so the mosh pit sucked ass for me, as i got squashed to the point of claustraphobia, all while listening to crap music. so i left and got a drink, then watched from the stands. it all wrapped up around 10:30pm so i met up with my friend and we headed back to catch the train back to the ferry back to the place i was staying. as for the other couple days i had, it was spent checking out all of the shops on the main street, saw a movie (kill bill vol. 1, which was awesome) and then on sunday we went to some markets and bought hilarous japanese oddities at bargain prices, like fighting cars and the like.
the end.
