Moscow is the new Cancun

Ok, so it's far from being warm here and you won't find any beaches. But my friend Stefanie is visiting me for spring break, and I'm here to convince you all that it's a great idea to skip the beaches for a week in Moscow this spring.

Why? Well, mainly because of the recent prices to fly to Moscow. Stefanie found round trip tickets from NY to Moscow for $300 dollars! This is frankly a miracle seeing as I last spent $1300 for a round trip during the holidays. My mom was telling me that American Airlines is having some promotional thing for Russia flights. Thus the outrageously low prices. And yes, $300 is outrageously low for flying overseas. My mom said that for the whole spring and even in the summer you can find round trip tickets for $250-500. This won't last forever, so you should definately take advantage of this opportunity to fly halfway across the world!

The second reason why you should come to Moscow, or to Russia in general, is because of the sad fate of the Russian ruble. The currency here has fallen drastically against the dollar. Basically, we want your dollars and they are worth a lot more than usual right now. In the summer, the exchange rate was a low as 23 rubles per dollar, now it's 35 rubles per dollar. So there you go, more for your dollar! Just like Market Basket. Of course, there has been some inflation as a result, but it's still awesome to be holding dollars right now in Moscow.

And for those of you who weren't planning on traveling because you don't have the money, I have two words for you: stimulus check. I know those tax refunds are coming in soon, and I know that most people will be getting a good sum of money. I'm getting much more this year than usual, and I only worked for 5 months in the states. Stimulate the economy and stimulate your desire for a cultural experience. And visit me... but you don't really need to stimulate me.

If you have the money, don't sit on it. It's ok to spend money sometimes if you spend it wisely. The economy is worse because people have stopped spending or investing in anything. Of course, if you are in debt, you should probably cut down on spending. I just know from basic economics that the economy will only get worse if people become paranoid and hide all of their money in their sock drawers. So yes, this year you should spend a little bit of that tax refund on something. Maybe an iphone, maybe a tv, maybe a down payment on a car, or maybe a surprisingly cheap trip to Russia. Why Russia? Because you love me! And I can show you how ridiculous Moscow is.

Ok, I should warn you that you'll have to get a russian visa to enter this country and you should be prepared to spend at least $200 together for a letter of invitation, visa, and registration. I didn't say it was easy coming here, it's just really cheap to fly right now.

And yes, there is still lots of snow on the ground. =/

But come anyways and be awesome like my friend Stefanie!
