Jacob the 'rapist'
I’m sorry, I need to vent, and I figured I could turn my venting into a discussion.
I was just scrolling through Twilighted, and I ran across a fic (which I will refrain from naming), where the entire plot was about how Jacob raped Bella and her recovering through the, I kid you not, “healing power of love, more specifically the amazing love shared between Bella and Edward.”
Are you kidding me? I mean, I understand that rape can be a plot device used for character growth, and I’ve read a few fics where it’s been well done, but this is so OOC Jacob I don’t even know where to begin. So in order to calm myself I figured I’d scroll through the reviews where I thought surely someone with sense is slamming this writer for this. Sadly, people were praising her on her spot on Jacob characterization. It made me sad.
And I understand that this stems from Jacob and Bella’s first and not so awesome kiss in “Eclipse”, but it disgusts me that people take that one mistake and turn Jacob into a rapist because of it.
What are your thoughts TATSonians? Why is Jacob so often misrepresented in fanfic? And by all means, use this discussion to vent.
