All New Moon "Cullens don't come back." Also inspired by the Five Things rec thread. And by the way, I swear these really are the songs my iPod spit out.

1. Little Red Riding Hood, The Bobs
little red riding hood / even bad wolves can be good / i'll try to be satisfied just to walk close by your side / maybe you'll see things my way before we get to grandma's place

"I climbed trees when I was little," Bella says wistfully. "There was a lemon tree in the backyard of our old house. I picked all the lemons, even the ones at the top."

"I'm surprised you didn't break your neck."

"I wasn't clumsy back then. It started with puberty." She turns her face up to the pines, and the green moss tints her pale skin. "I miss it. Being up so high."

Jacob wants to say that he would bend the trees down for her, if she asked him to, but he can't think of the right words to use.

2. Get Ready 4 This, 2 Unlimited
y'all ready for this?

"Okay." Jacob points at the field. "On a 3-2 count, the guys on base will be off and running. Why is that?"

Bella gives him a Look.

"C'mon, Bells, think about it."

Another Look.

Jacob sighs, and Ichiro strikes out, ending the inning. "Okay, okay. You really do hate baseball." Bella says something, but he can't hear it over the SafeCo Field speakers blaring jock music.

"What?"

She leans up to his ear. "They run because nothing bad will happen if they don't." He feels her sigh against his skin. "They're lucky."

He doesn't know how to respond to that.

3. I Have a Little Dreidel, Barenaked Ladies
my dreidel is so playful / it loves to dance and spin / a happy game of dreidel / come play now let's begin

He holds her at bay as he pushes the tape labeled Cordon Elementary Holiday Pageant into the VHS player. "Hey, you said I could pick the next movie! It's not my fault you didn't specify!"

Bella gives up struggling against his unrelenting arm, moans, and buries her face in a couch cushion. "I didn't mean home movies and you know it, you jerk." Her voice is muffled.

The video starts playing, and Jacob blinks. "Is that--"

"Shut up."

"Are you--"

"Shut up!"

The second-grade Bella twirls across the stage in her dreidel costume, and Jacob is completely speechless.

4. Bob Dylan, The Maddening Crowd
i search the beaches walk the sand / i cut my feet on broken glass / strap the sandals on my feet / i'm run down but i still hit the street

He nearly kissed her today.

He walks along the beach of La Push in the darkness. They'd been play-fighting over the last cookie. Bella had been laughing -- laughing -- and did a surprising little twist out of his arms and she was right there, face flushed, smiling lips inches from his... and then she jumped away like she'd been scalded by hot oil. She said he'd won the cookie fair and square.

Something is pent up inside and Jacob almost howls at the moon, except that's too damn cliche even for him. But what else is there to do?

5. Girl on the Wing, The Shins
we could have been so good-natured if i'd relented when you insisted / but we've been backed against all nature's walls far too long

There's patience and then there's masochism and his heart hurts all the time.

He starts before he can change his mind. "Bella... I've been thinking."

She nods. "I have too."

"I..." His lips don't want to form the words. "Bella, we can't be friends anymore."

"I know," she says softly.

He thinks he might pass out. "We'll be okay." Trying to reassure himself as much as her.

"Yeah. I think we will be." Then Bella stands on her tiptoes and kisses him. She kisses him and thank God his mouth is occupied, because Jacob has no idea what to say.

You have 2 Unlimited on your ipod?
*swoon*

Jacob wants to say that he would bend the trees down for her, if she asked him to, but he can't think of the right words to use.
Such a beautiful image, and so Jacob.

He nearly kissed her today.
He walks along the beach of La Push in the darkness.
This sent a delightful shiver down my spine - such a simple couple of lines to conjure up a whole scene. Beautiful.

2 Unlimited only got there because I bought "Jock Jams" for myself when I was twelve ;) I'm glad you liked this, I just kind of eeked it out over the course of an hour. I love prompts.

I have a strange and inexplicable fondness for 2 Unlimited. I am reminded of stomping the night away at a goth (!) club in London whenever I hear that song. Good times!

And I have to say I'm wondering what the hell 'Jock Jams' is all about... To my English brain that sounds quite smutty for some reason. LOL

LOL at Bella dressed as a giant dreidel. Home videos are made with the sole purpose of humiliating us ten years later. I used a fancy math equation to figure that one out.

She leans up to his ear. "They run because nothing bad will happen if they don't." He feels her sigh against his skin. "They're lucky."

Loved that part. Profound and sorta bittersweet because she's chosen to STOP running.

Which is good I guess, since it was supposed to be "They run because nothing bad will happen if they do." CURSE YOU LACK OF EDIT FUNCTION! *shakes fist* But I'm glad the line worked anyway :) And thanks, I decided that there's no reason Bella shouldn't suffer along with the rest of us in the grand world of "Let's pull out _____'s piano recital!" humiliation.

I adored all of these, especially #1 and #3. You're really good at nailing Jacob's characterization. *is jealous*

Thanks, love :) I think #3 was my favorite, too... though you should have seen the look on my face when that song popped up on the iPod. But no cheating, right?

Aww! That is such a cute line. Jacob is such a romantic at heart. *dreamy sigh*

The second-grade Bella twirls across the stage in her dreidel costume, and Jacob is completely speechless.

Hahahaha! I loved that entire scene! Such a classic Jacob and Bella. :)

They were all wonderful! You have such an amazing grasp of the characters. Great job! :)

:) Jacob's a romantic, but I think more than anything, he's a fixer -- and if she told him that that's what would fix her for that moment, then he'd do it. Fixers have a hard time with broken girls. This is why Jacob needs to be given happy endings in fanfic, or it's too sad.

Anyhow, thanks, and I'm glad you liked them! :)

Hee. Thanks! (Though I'm not feeling too charitable towards the Mariners right now. That call at second was totally blown on Tuesday. The Twins should've left town with at least a split. A fabulous Slowey start, all for naught!)
