the basis of all fanfics?

Hi all!

I had a question I thought I would run by you all, seeing as I have the perfect combination of both readers and writers here. What your opinion on rewrites?

Like, I mean what do you think about writers who take large sections of SMeyer text and change it up. We've all seen it done right, but then again I'm sure that we've all witnessed ( Read more... )

I have no problem with rewrites. I think it's a natural occurrence. It's the delivery of rewrites that causes problems.

Here is the thing. As fans of the books and wanting certain plots to be explored more, changed to fit your likings OR you just want to write it over, it's ONLY natural that this takes place. It's kinda like JB fans writing JB as endgame OR EB fans writing EB more interesting than the books portrayed them, IMO.

My problem with rewrites stem from when they are HORRIBLY done. Twilight should not be ALL about Bella wanting to get bite, she is bite and then goes around biting other people (not that I read that but I think the point is made). New Moon shouldn't feature Bella sad that Edward left for HALF of the first chapter and then rewriting it where she becomes Jacob's little personal nympho by the end (not that I have personally read that either, just making a 'point'). Eclipse shouldn't be where Bella leaves Edward for Jacob, Edward can read her mind and ALL she thinks about is sex between them to the point where he leaves (although as crack!fic this is totally acceptable and encouraged *winks, winks*). Breaking Dawn SHOULDN'T exist BUT if it must, please don't rewrite it to where Bella has a ONS with Jacob, has his baby and then turns all vamp!Bella, has P***y Fungus Overgrowth Nessie, turns the JB baby vamp and then ride off into the sunset. I meean, all that I have named are EXTREME cases but I think I am making sense.

Rewriting how before Bella went to Forks HS and got to know Jacob more and maybe even grew to like him IS not a far stretch of a rewrite for Twilight. Rewriting how Jasper actually bites Bella, is saved and they move away and she possibly has to deal with this and Jacob helps IS not a far stretch from a rewrite of New Moon. Rewriting how the note from Jacob in the beginning and actually meeting up with Jacob somehow and it turns into a love story IS not a far stretch of a rewrite for Eclipse. Rewriting how Jacob made it back BEFORE Bella actually marries Edward and she rethinks how her life is going IS not a far stretch of a rewrite for Breaking Dawn.

Okay, I think I made some sense there. :)

Okay, just making sure cause I tend to ramble a lot and while it makes perfect sense to me while typing it, sometimes I cringe on a re-read of it.
