I will work on it! And post it! At some point. I kind of now just want to stop doing bio and just sit down and write an awesome adventure novel with like, beasts and magic, oh my!! Plus a lesbian main character and her bisexual dude sidekick. Maybe I should just leave this for somebody who can actually write something of substance.
I do think it's a big part of finding yourself and such; it's just that from then on, there's not a lot more stories that are told involving queer characters. And I think part of it is just that, as someone who is already out of the closet, I would like other stories with which I can identify. Yes, yes, YES to what you said. And most of queer fiction is - I hate to say it, but it's mostly true - so badly written that it makes me want to cringe. (Which is why I think I read a lot of fanfiction, even to this day - because the characters are relatable and they're telling a story of two girls (or guys, but in my case, I usually read girl+girl) who happen to fall for each other and it's more like a chick lit, but for gay girls.
Did you also see that Disney confession on Tumblr that said something along the lines of how people shouldn't expect Disney to do a queer storyline because it wasn't right to expose children to that? But yes, I completely agree; it takes a large leap in the beginning, but once a major company does something about it, we'll be one step closer to others accepting that queer people are just like anybody else.
