shows galore!

01. Am now working my way through the third season of Sanctuary. Feel free to blame this on lytab5. (But seriously? This show is awesome. I don't know why it took me up till the very last few episodes of the first season to get into it, but I'm glad I'm finally on board). Would anyone like to ~talk~ about this show with me? (Both the good and bad points ( Read more... )

1. Awesome, because I have so many thoughts and feelings that I'll need someone to discuss this with. I've tried looking for discussion comms, but haven't been able to turn up anything active. (Active comms, yes, but not active discussions on episodes).

Yes, I saw Breach - was that one of your favourites of the season?

I would marry her if I could; that's how awesome she is.

As for ships, this show is one of those where I don't really ship too much. Sort of like Warehouse 13. But then season 3 rolled around, and then the episodes where they're in Hollow Earth - and now I ship Helen/Ranna really, really hard. I don't typically ship Magnus (it's weird to call her Helen) with anyone, because she just doesn't have that kind of chemistry with anyone on the show. (I saw it occasionally with Kate, the few times she's interacted with her one-on-one, but I don't feel particularly inclined to shipping Kate/Helen. Tesla, on the other hand... I love them two together; they're so snarky and awesome and I can totally get behind that ship). In my head, I have created a world in Ranna is not dead. Or at least, I assumed she was dead giving how Praxis is gone (I just finished S3... don't judge me!).

Other pairings I ship, though not very hardcore: Will/Clara and Henry/Erika. There's something about Abby that doesn't click with me, so I haven't been really able to get into Will/Abby.

Who do you ship? :)

And yes, I love Nikola! ♥

3. Yeah, the faith storyline is kind of 'meh' for me. ALL I CAN SEE IS ADAMA, TOO.

6. Hopefully it picks up next week. And haha, those are my favourite pairings in the show.

Someone really needs to step on that fic! I really, really want it to happen.

Yes, I find that a little sad as well. Though there are always reaction posts, reviews and things like that happening after the airing of an episode. But it's not really the same.
I believe it has to do with the fact that Sanctuary is a tiny show (compared to a whole bunch of US productions) and unfortunately, the fandom is small.
Though fierce and loyal. :-)

Dear God, yes. It's actually one of my favourites of the whole show, to be quite honest.
I mean, the violence is so horrible and I feel so awful for Magnus (and Amanda Tapping, now that I have watched this episode with commentary). On top of that, Worth is so crazy and unpredictable in the beginning. I was really creeped out when I first watched this.
But then there's also the essence of Helen Magnus. She gets beaten up so badly, there seems to be no way out of that horrbile situation but she doesn't back down or give up.
No, sir! Instead she takes on the fight and keeps on trying to find a way out. And she kicks Worth' ass just like he deserves.
The "STOP. HITTING. ME." moment comes to mind.
I JUST LOVE THE CRAP OUT OF HELEN MAGNUS.

I would marry her if I could; that's how awesome she is.
*happy sigh. Yeah.
But back of the line for you, please.

As for ships, this show is one of those where I don't really ship too much.
Yes, it's the pretty much the same for me. Although I do ship Helen Magnus with pretty much anyone/anything. Charlotte, John, Nikola, James, Ranna, water, skirts, pencils, weapons, etc. But it's more of an episodic thing.
There are some episodes when I really love Helen/John, especially "For King and Country" during that epic scene when Helen lays with John. Those two have a heavy energy and were actually what got me watching in the first place. ♥
Ranna was unexpected for me. But their scenes were simply AMAZING. (There is also a bunch of fanfiction around for those two. I just read a really great one a couple of days ago. Just so you know.)
Also, I will never judge you for your head canon. :-)
Helen/Nikola scenes are just delicious and fun and still filled with that long history. Never a dull moment. ♥
I also love ALL the friendships between ALL the characters. LOVE.

As for Henry/Erika. Aren't they the cutest?
I don't ship them hardcore either but I love Henry so much and those two are totally awww-worthy.
And I agree with your Abby-feelings. I don't know what it is because Pascale Hutton is lovely but I don't know.

Any favourite episodes yet?
What did you think about "Out of the Blue" (where Will and Helen are in a dream world)?
Amanda's acting simply blew me away here. (Again.)

ALL I CAN SEE IS ADAMA, TOO.
OMG, another brain!twin moment. *glomps*

Someone really needs to step on that fic! I really, really want it to happen.
I will write it on my letter to santa this year. Maybe it'll happen.

I was really creeped out by that episode, partly because it was really late (and I'm a fraidy cat to begin with), and it was the last episode I saw before heading to bed a few nights ago. But like you said, I liked how it showed that she never gives up and tries to figure things out while she's trying to get away from Worth (no easy feat). This is one of those shows where I'd like to hear the commentary, just because I think the cast is amazing and would like to hear their insights.

Hahahahaha! And yes, I agree with it being an episodic thing. Although I'm starting to wonder what is it about the guys? Because they're dating, but Kate and Magnus aren't shown to have anyone. Okay, Magnus has Tesla and John. But Kate hasn't been shown to be dating anyone. I think it's one of those things where again, like Warehouse 13, it's difficult to date while working in the Sanctuary. But I do love the family dynamic/friendships that have sprung up between all of them.

I really like the tension between Helen/John, though for me, it's very episodic. I think Helen will always love John, even though she doesn't necessarily say so; it's one of those things where they always love each other, but they aren't right for each other at that point in their lives. But I loved the scene where she lies with John.

When I saw Polly Walker's name on the special guest star thingy that popped up in the beginning, I was really excited and could only hope that they had awesome chemistry (but I didn't really expect it). AND THEN IT HAPPENED, AND I WAS LIKE NIEWVTIESHJVSVELJVSE@!#!@$@# (in glee, of course). Can you link me to these awesome fics? I've only managed to find a few here and there, and have yet to read a good one. (I just found a long one by an author I like, though, so I'm excited to get started on that).

*glomps back*

MAKE IT HAPPEN.

You got that right, the whole team is completely amazing! I don't even really like audio commentaries because more often than not, those take away the magic from the story (for me). But listening to Damian, Martin and Amanda go on about it while having fun... I have never had such a blast over commentaries like I did recently with my season 3 dvds.
You just feel how much they love what they're doing and how much they respect and love each other. It's so great.
(BTW, I recommend watching this for behind the scenes shenanigans. Love it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QBKk4qEJsE)

Although I'm starting to wonder what is it about the guys?
Yeah, I've had my problems with that as well but let's just say, season 4 brings a little more for the ladies as well.
Though you're right, dating is hard when you're involved with the sanctuary. And for Helen, I think, it's especially hard because everyone she loves, grows old and dies eventually (like she said in "Requiem"... cocktail parties are hell). (Except two of the Five but they're crazy. ;-))
But I also don't really think she's the dating type. Though she does have fun now and then. (Rarely shown on the screen.)
I believe Kate and Helen being permanently single has prompted a lot of speculation and fanfiction concerning those two. Hee. :-)

Can you link me to these awesome fics?
I can't find the exact link right now but it was definitely over here: http://archiveofourown.org/works?utf8=%E2%9C%93&selected_tags[tags][]=116&selected_tags[tags][]=10565&language_id=&boolean_type=and&commit=Filter+Works&tag_id=Sanctuary+%28TV%29
The searched is already tagged for F/F. Enjoy. :-)

I might have to give in and get the DVD sets at some point! And I heard that apparently Amanda Tapping commented on the chemistry between Helen and Ranna? /unrelated. And LOL "Check the vending machine to see if you can buy some dignity." Also, Amanda Tapping totally has the same camera that I do!

ITA with what you said about Helen. As for Kate - I guess she did go to Hollow Earth to be happy with the dude (who I like and whose name escapes me right now), so she's not exactly single. And I could see how that would arouse some speculation!

Thanks for the link - I think I read most of that, haha!

PS: Thank you! Someone awesome made it. I don't remember who, but you can check my icons and the credit will be there.

Re: "Out of the Blue" - loved it. Amanda was amazing in it. Character-wise, I think it also showed you a lot about both Will and Magnus; sort of like what Henry (or maybe it was Kate?) said at the end, where the "dreams" they were having were supposed to be their happiest place, and yet they tried to escape from it.

Also, the more I watch this show, the more I want to write/want to read more Sanctuary/Warehouse 13 crossovers.

Yes, but was it really a happy place?
Will never wanted to be a heart surgeon and while his family life sure was blissful, it's what got him curious in the first place.
And Magnus got married to John which she really didn't seem to want and she also had this prescripted medication for anxiety. That life couldn't have been too happy.
(Although I did like the house Magnus was living in. So beautiful!)

Oh, write it? NICE. (You know, you want to, Sarah!)

Well - that's what I'm saying. According to Kate, it was supposed to be happy, but when you see them there, they really aren't. It did make me LOL that Magnus was a cat lady. The artist bit seemed to suit her, for some reason.

BAHAHAHAHAHA that's probably not going to happen anytime soon. I just plotted out my epic W13 fic, but I really don't have the time to write it, so.
