Ganta was running. He was running in a field that was wide and open and free. A place that he had probably never been to in his waking life. But he was far too busy to notice that now, he was preoccupied with the white haired girl running far ahead of him.
Shiro was laughing as she ran, leading Ganta to where she wanted. There wasn't much that the boy could do to deny Shiro when she insisted he followed her. She had begged him to come along, saying that they were late and everyone was waiting. As he struggled to keep up with her, Ganta couldn't help smile at the idea that when she stopped and he caught up with her, he would be with the rest of his friends too. Yoh, Minatsuki, Nagi, Karako, Senji...everyone was just up ahead, just beyond his vision.
"Gantaaaaa!" Shiro paused to wave and call his name again before resuming her dash. The boy tried to force himself to run faster as his name was called again. But... That wasn't Shiro's voice.
His name was called again, this time from behind. This made Ganta come to a halt. He knew this voice. He turned around and saw Mimi, standing a distance away in the field. "Mimi..." "But I'm supposed to be following Shiro..." He looked over his shoulder. Shiro was now a small form far in the distance. It would be difficult to catch up with her now.
"...Have you forgotten about us, Ganta?" Mimi's face crumpled. "Have you found all new friends to replace us?"
"I Haven't!" he insisted. The thought was horrifying to him. Without even realizing it, he was shouting. "I could never do that! I think about you guys everyday and wish..." "Things were different" was what he was supposed to say but he couldn't get the words to come out. At one time he had wished that, but did he still? Did he really regret meeting Shiro, Yoh, Minatsuki and all of those people?
No, he didn't.
"Gantaaaaaaaaa!" Shiro was calling to him again, much closer now as she had returned for him.
"Ganta," Mimi was looking at him expectantly.
"Ganta!"
"Ganta."
The voices were starting to mix together and the sky was darkening and everything around him seemed to be distorting. Ganta tried to call out but his voice was lost in the cries of his name. Things were starting to turn black, both Mimi and Shiro were disappearing. Ganta was alone in the center of the field and-]
