What a day! I helped set up a party for some twenty-five people +1 Santa and a few dozen gingerbread clones. At the restaurant down the street a gingerbread man decorating party was held during which ol' St. Nick made an appearance, bounced some kids on his lap, chortled a few 'ho's, and told a story about how he broke into houses on Christmas night. The party was a huge success and it was fun seeing the kid's creativity in some edible art. No, there weren't many masterpieces, but I bet to the parents, their child's cookie was the best ever.
Anyway, I promised you some pictures of my gingerbread house. I took several pictures of the village that was set up during the party for the silent auction. Unfortunately, there were too few entries for the $100 prize to be awarded (most of the gingerbread houses were from the owner and her family). However, we were promised something for entering and if the houses sell, a portion of the proceeds will go to charity. That works for me.
So, on the pictures.
My house is the one between the big farmhouse and Santa's sleigh there on the left. At the bottom left is my mother's gingerbread house with the pez roof. It really sticks out, huh? You should've seen the kids eyeing it like a pack of wolves, boasting in how little time they could eat all the pez shingles. I've never seen kids so crazy for pez.
A side-view of the houses. Mom's square pretzel fence really helps complete the entire house. She also had marshmallow trees and snowmen in the yard. Supercute.

In back of the house, I built a chimney out of those realistic-looking candy-shelled, milk chocolate rocks you can buy at the bulk candy stores. All in all, the thing turned out even better than I'd planned. I'm eager to do more gingerbread houses now. I have so many ideas. And they're so easy! Why was I ever daunted?
And I just have this thing for edible art. It's wonderfully freeing to make something you know isn't going to last.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the pics! Thanks for the advice earlier this week.
