I think I've mentioned this before, but people are bothering me over it again so that it's become a real pet peeve.
Please, people, respect my privacy. If I say I don't often utilize IMs and I prefer email or PMs on various galleries, leave it at that. Don't press me that you really want to talk to me about this or that. If you do, then email and other methods are perfectly accessible ways of doing so. No, they're not instant gratification, but I don't want to be locked down at the computer for hours talking with a stranger.
It feels extremely wrong to log into my IMs in the rare cases that I do under a 'Private' setting or 'DND' etc. I don't want to have to sneak around new folks on my list when I bother to log in. I also don't like to be barraged by several chat windows at once. If I'm on the computer, I'm usually working.
There are a select few to whom I enjoy speaking regularly and I have various methods by which to do so. I will seek out their company. Otherwise, I'm not an extremely social person. It's just not in my nature.
So, I'm sorry if I seem like I'm blowing you off by referring you to other methods of communication. I still may want to speak with you if I ask you to write. I just don't want to be ear to mouth. Please, respect my privacy.
Thanks, everyone.
