Picpost -- Seventh Sanctum Beauty Contest Entry

Jan 26, 2006 19:07

NO PETS ALLOWED

This short comic involves three catfolk. Dallas is a self-absorbed sponge living with our 'hero' Bren. Bren is a down on his luck muscian who has a habit of making bad decisions. His childhood friend Saffron shows up unexpectedly to nag him change his mind before he finds himself out on the street once again.

All of these characters were generated by the Seventh Sanctum Catgirl and Catguy generators.

The pages were penned on bristol with india ink and nib pen. Word balloons and lettering were done in Photoshop.

Catgirl Generator:

Saffron: This aloof catgirl has hooded, yellow eyes. She has short, curly, yellow hair worn in an alluring style. Her skin is china-white, with yellow fur on her ears and tail. She has a wasp-waisted build. Her tail is short, tapering and carried straight. Her fashion preferences are best described as "nerd." The way she carriers herself, it seems as if she has a smell under her nose.

Right off the bat, I wanted to make Saffron mousy, but a bit stuck up and bossy from the 'aloof' characteristic. Having her in somewhat frumpy clothes made it difficult to represent her 'wasp-waisted build'. What's more, with glasses, you don't always see her eyes. Though the comic isn't colored, I tried to represent that Saffron had light eyes. Hopefully the color will come across. I really like her tail. It's always straight and tense. She also has great expressions.

Catgirl Generator:

Dallas: This mysterious catgirl has round, brown eyes. She has long, thick, wavy, white hair worn in a businesslike style. Her fur is white with gray stripes on her torso. She has a petite build. Her ears are pointed and close-set, and her tail is plume-like and carried with a curve. She usually wears cutoff jeans and little else. You can tell she doesn't want anything to do with you - and probably not with anyone else.

Now here's the REALLY aloof character. Dallas is a mystery because she won't let anyone close, save to take whatever she wants. She never gives straight answers on her background nor does she like explaining her actions. Dallas just does and if you don't like what she does, you can get the hell out. As a great contrast to Saffron, Dallas is all show-- if not a bit trashy. She makes me think 'slut' though I think there's more to her. Maybe Bren sees it too, which is why he's really permissive about her actions. Then again, she could just be a complete bitch and he has all the backbone of an earthworm. Dallas' partial 'up-do' always makes me think of business ladies these days. It's almost a token hairstyle to have one's do inverted and sticking up like a plume. Those stripes? Tres sexy.

Catguy Generator:

Bren: This tense catguy has hooded, orange eyes. He has short, thick, straight, black hair worn in an elegant style. His skin is peaches-and-cream-colored, with orange fur on his ears and tail. He has a wide-chested build. His ears are alert and rounded. He usually wears whatever he has lying around. It's hard for him to sit still for long periods of time.

As I described earlier, Bren is an out-of-luck musician. Though it's not shown in this little segment (because I didn't want to focus too much on one character), I can very well imagine him being the chain-smoking, pacing, tormented artist. As you can see, he doesn't want to stick around long enough to hear Saffron's lecture. He's another sort with frumpy off-color clothing. I was thinking 'grunge' when designing him because that always struck me as a 'wear whatever's lying on the floor when you roll out of bed' provided you didn't sleep in those clothes, style. He has wide shoulders, even though you mostly only see him in profile. I like the guy's hair, though. Does he look sort of hispanic to you? I think it's the trimmed little whiskers.

Solely for the contest sake: I am commissionable. Please refer to http://www.ninja-monkey.com/hire.php for a list of prices. You can email me from the same page.

That's all! Hope you enjoyed the teeny little feature. I've been drawing so many animal-folk lately. I'm not even a furry artist. What the hell? T_T
