Sent this note to Papa John's this morning. I'm more amused than annoyed, but I think it bears commenting:
I placed an order with your company last night. It arrived on time and was delicious, as usual, but my concern is a flyer glued to the pizza box top. It advertised the upcoming Tax Day Rally by the Richmond Tea Party, at which, apparently, the local franchise(s) of Papa Johns will be selling pizza.
I'm assuming here that Papa Johns does not attempt to advertise every venue at which they are invited to sell pizza; other wise I'd see a lot more invites to high school sports games and possibly high school cafeterias. So, I can only view this as an attempt to push this particular event, which is not exactly your average family block party.
Political views are personal, and reasonable peoples' may differ. I question the wisdom of advertising one as a pizza business, even if the franchise owner is deeply committed to its cause, because it has the potential to result in one of two outcomes: 1) People of opposing political views will stop buying or 2) People of opposing political views will demand equal time. If Papa Johns is unwilling to sell pizza at and advertise a gay rights rally at the Richmond capital, it may wish to refrain from pushing the Tea Party's events.
Fortunately, both liberals and conservatives love good pizza!
I think it's pretty civil, but we'll see how it all turns out. Honestly, with our finances the way they are right now, we probably shouldn't have been ordering pizza delivery anyway. :P
