[open: first post] My Opinions on the Strike Zone

Mar 15, 2011 03:43

I'm told that this online blogging business is a good way to talk baseball. So today I'm going to talk baseball.

During games I've noticed that umpires are getting stricter and stricter about the strike zone. Some people (hi Takaya) tell me that this is just a matter of umpire preference and that better pitching control and research of the different umpires can help determine how to game the umpires, but I feel that is stupid because the srike zone should be the strike zone, period, and so I think it would be better of more logical standards were adopted by the umpires instead.

And no, Akimaru. This is not just because I am tired of my pitches being called balls when they are clearly strikes. I know the difference between a ball and a strike, thank you very much Mr. Suddenly A Baseball Expert. You don't need to explain marginal balls to me. I know that sometimes things are tricky and I've come to accept that sometimes umpires are just wrong.

I would be able to get more players to swing and those marginal calls if I had a catcher who could actually give me a useful lead, Akimaru, but that's not the point and besides there's no point wishing for horses to fly, either.

Although flying horses would be cool.

Anyway. Over the next few days I am going to study umpire regulations and then Akimaru it will be your job to memorize the things I have learned and point out to the umpires when they are wrong in determining the strike zone. I think that fair is fair and all umpires should be held to the same standards, even the fat and lazy ones who care about baseball as little as some stupid catchers I might happen to know. Akimaru.

Peace out.
