No one reads this anyhow...

But ... it bugs me somewhat when people get on to me about making icons from fanart. Yes, I can read quite well that it says "don't use" but it also says "without permission." Therefore, you email the artist, gush on about how you love their work, and ASK them if you can use it! Which I have. If I didn't ask, I'd totally make more from other artists too.

But what gets to me is why do the Japanese fanartists get all this respect in the first place? Why do they get all this (what's the acronym on their sites, OFT? OFP? Something like that)??

IT'S FANART.
Do you think they went and asked Tite Kubo (since I'm ranting about Bleach) if it was ok for them to draw his characters having gay sex?! I don't think so. Why is it such a big deal to some people, I'll never know.

I'm an artist too, ya know. And as long as people link back to me, I don't get my panties in a bunch if they DO use my drawings. As long as it's fanart. Because I don't really have any copyright over those, they aren't my characters. That's how I see it.

Original art, on the other hand, I won't mess with unless I'm perfectly allowed to.

Point is... I will never understand why it's ok. Maybe it's because I'm a baka gaijin and in Japan it's cool to make money off other people's ideas (i.e. doujinshi) but WTF?!

Ok, I'm done. Not like it matters, no one reads this LJ unless it has icons on it. :/
